    Suggestion: Airships as player housing.

Airships of varying sizes and styles but in general nothing quite so varied as houses are able to be set up now. so maybe 3 sizes and 3-4 styles to choose from for each and then color options for certain parts (sails, hull, trim, ect) so basically 12 different ship models that may use varying textures.

also, i imagine these as apartment alternatives rather than estates. so in general most of us would be forced to make the choice between a garden bed and a chocobo stable with these unless our FC has stables.

    as for the sizes
small: 1 apartment sized room or a bit larger. 100 to 150 indoor items with some small outdoor space on deck (10 items maybe) plus the choice of setting up a special area as a chocobo stable or a raised bed garden patch but not both. so not really on par with a cottage but more options than a simple apartment.

medium: inside is cottage sized with the addition of an apartment sized room.
250 items indoors, 15 outdoor (or deck specific) items. 1 garden patch area and 1 chocobo stable
a slight step up from a cottage house.

large: same area inside as a medium sized house. maybe something like 3 apartment sized rooms + a some space on the deck for outdoor space... 20 outdoor/deck specific items and 2 areas that and be configured as either garden patches or a chocobo stable.

i don't imagine any of these to be big enough to house a FC with 512 private rooms.

if you want to do something for free companies i think it'd be nice to enable them to buy a floating island to put docks on. maybe with an optional housing plot.

on another note i think it'd be great to allow characters who wish to enable guest access to their airship to register their ship at a housing area dock and their FC's dock. so one ship per character but guest access from two possible places. otherwise it doesn't need to be listed anywhere than a characters own teleport list.

a airship dock housing area where you can see other player's ships like this shouldn't be as resource heavy as a normal housing area especially if outdoor furnishings someone places on deck aren't loaded until a player actually enters (and thus loads the actual airship). an open deck could also be generally obscured by having to climb a ladder or go up a walkway or having the main entrance be entrance on the side. it'd be loading predefined templates for each ship rather than actual customized ships. reusing the ward listing window for docks would likely work out well to access the docks purchased by players to hold their airship.

This is a great idea, I support it. But I think having a personal interior at the airship docks would be just as good, one that could travel, be decorated inside and have a few cabin slots for friends. Even if not in a guild <like me> we could still support limited amount of friends. Possible even have a group drop-off point for teams/hunts, and having airship ladder hanging down as access point when team/group needs to pile back in for next location.

I know I know, legos.., but it was the only pic I could find in a search as a visual aid.

Another thing that would be easy with instanced housing (it would just be another decor)

If this game was turned into a sandbox free big world map open-world i say sure, boat, ships and housing, this game has too much corridor in linear with corner ward.

If it involved a rather immersive and expansive system of upgrading both features, appearance, and size of the airship that could serve as a sizable gil sink I would be all for it. IMO I think the game really needs things that can take large to massive amounts of gil out of circulation more than just adding a different form of additional housing plots atm. With the current housing the only real part of the process that actually takes gil out of circulation is buying the plot. The rest of it is mostly just passing gil off to other players via market board.

    All for it.

Housing in FFXIV is so heart breakingly abysmal & desperately needs a fix.

As unpopular as the suggestion is, I would be willing to pay up in the mog station for a large solo instanced housing. Housing additions as they stand are simply unreasonable for a non crafter to aford by themselves. With a full time job, as a single parent, my time to playis extremely limited as it is. Fighting "Housing ex" is just not something I can reasonably do.

Ohhh yeah ever since the Heavensward Alliance raids, I've wanted airships are housing/company housing. I got shouted down really badly due to some weird thing that WoW did(no idea what it was) but I still want it and I think it would be an amazing, FF lore type way to do instanced housing.

Fully featured airship housing would be quite neat, would love to see that. I really like airships in the FF universe and I do feel like they're relatively unimportant and underutilized. In the sense that their presence is few and very temporal, bout as important as a Zeppelin is in WoW- but at least personally to me airships have been a major fun and momentous moment in previous sRPG of FF series, so it'd be nice if it had a more front and center presence.

On the off chance they're really unable to make their housing system go fully powered instances I had thought they might get some good mileage out of a node based system, something you might draw parallels to WoW Garrison (make sure to check the features that caused issues, making sure it's a nice stepping stone and area of respite but not somewhere you vanish to forever and never need to visit towns)- or since WoW is a bad word you can also imagine some single player RPGs like the homestead system in Assassins Creed (either the Italian / Native American one) or some of the housing implementations in Skyrim. Such a concept could vastly decrease the amount of memory needed to both store and load when used (making it stress the servers less, and also opening up some more concepts to play with).

Also if it worked as a sort of mobile outpost that had some of the features of housing as well, just in case a player didn't own a house (so your airship could have a garden for example), then you'd also be able to have a situation where a FC / player that already owned a house could also have an airship and it makes a lot of sense, meanwhile a player that either couldn't get a house or just wanted something a bit more straight forward but still very homely could have a 'home' too (since in effect you'd be the decision maker of decoration themes but SE would be your decorator, meaning you'd not have to be crafty in order for it to feel right, like how the inn rooms in this game are quite nice feeling). Building and upgrading rooms and choosing their themes / sockets within, allowing nice and deep progression without it having to be place 500 objects in a small space while utilizing a bunch of weird glitches (this means players can have a nice place without having to deal with the hassle, meanwhile the ward homes are still available for those who wanted that, or both even). Also if it's node based, and everyone including those who already own a house have value, it should be easier to expect it as a content piece meaning you might get some cool moments in the story where your airship is needed / doing things- or there is extra content related to airships (like world map with pirate battles, floating island discovery (instead of a UI only), seeing your airship inside the zone, etc).
