runtimebroker.exe causing PC to shutdown when only launching FFXIV

Hello,

Whenever I try to launch FFXIV it causes my PC to shutdown. I looked at the event viewer for Event ID 1074 and it shows that runtimebroker.exe is the cause reason.

but this is only triggered when i try to launch the game. i have tried launching other games and applications and there are no issues. it only happens with FF14. what steps might i be able to take to be able to rectify this issue? and what other information would you need on my end?

To prevent repeating previously attempted troubleshooting, what have you tried to alleviate the problem? Does this crash happen when Final Fantasy XIV is the only program running? Also, could you provide a system report? Simply go to the 'Config' option on the Final Fantasy XIV launcher and to the right of 'System Information' click on 'Display.'

Troubleshooting:
> disconnected secondary monitor to see if a monitor with two different refresh rates affects the game and only ran the game and no other application. my primary monitor is the LG 27-GL850-B.
> did system reset. this helped me a little bit. i was able to login but it is only in windowed mode. when i set the game to High Desktop, Full Screen, 1440p, 144Hz the game crashes.

If you are using Rainmeter as an overlay for your desktop, shut that off completely before running any DirectX game or application.
The video card may have issues with running the overlay in one form of DirectX and the game in another, which can sometimes cause crashes.

alright. i have completely uninstalled rainmeter. i am also in the process of uninstalling the game. basically the quickest way i am able to replicate the issue is when, after doing a system reset via the launcher and logging back in, the computer shutsdown when i try to set it back to windowed fullscreen/ fullscreen. i will see if this happens after uninstalling rain meter.

i would like to follow up on this update. uninstalling rainmeter and re-installing the game did not fix the issue. now, when i set the game to fullscreen mode or windowed fullscreen it shutsdown the entire system. please advise what steps i can take to rectify issue. i dont think its ideal to play in windowed mode.

At this point, try updating the drivers for the graphics card:

Good morning and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

Have any changes happened to the device before the issue began? We would also like to recommend several other troubleshooting steps:

1) Make sure that your hardware is not overheating and remove any overclocks you may have on your graphics card or processor. Please check that any fans or vents are clear of blocks.
2) Disable any additional programs that could cause interference with the game itself including chat programs. Also, remove any custom configurations made using graphics driver-level programs
3) Remove any mods or injectors from the game or system
4) Turn off Fullscreen Optimizations. Find the executable file for the game (normally found in the install folder), right-click it and select 'Properties'. Under the 'Compatibility' tab, check the box labeled 'Disable Fullscreen Optimizations', then click 'Apply'.
5) Remove any unnecessary USB or audio devices (controllers, headphones, flash drives etc.)
6) Update and reinstall the drivers for your graphics card
7) Perform a clean boot by opening the task manager and select the 'Start up' Tab. Disable everything
