Unexpected Error, Closing FFXIV (17)

So, I have been seeing this floating around, but with no real fixes. I emailed the support team and they told me to post on the forums. This error specifically only occurs when trying to load the "Seat of Sacrifice" trial in 5.3.

I have run every other trial and raid that came out in this patch, with the exception of this specific quest.

1) Make sure that your hardware is not overheating and remove any overclocks you may have on your graphics card or processor. Please check that any fans or vents are clear of blocks.
2) Disable any additional programs that could cause interference with the game itself including chat programs. Also, remove any custom configurations made using graphics driver-level programs
3) Remove any mods or injectors from the game or system
4) Turn off Fullscreen Optimizations. Find the executable file for the game (normally found in the install folder), right-click it and select 'Properties'. Under the 'Compatibility' tab, check the box labeled 'Disable Fullscreen Optimizations', then click 'Apply'.
5) Remove any unnecessary USB or audio devices (controllers, headphones, flash drives etc.)
6) Update and reinstall the drivers for your graphics card
7) Perform a clean boot by opening the task manager and select the 'Start up' Tab. Disable everything
8) Install Windows, Steam and FINAL FANTASY XIV onto the same drive

As this seems to be the end comment on the posts relating to this problem:

I have just rebuilt this computer, so this started off with a clean hard drive. Everything is up to date, everything is installed onto the same drive. Fullscreen optimization has been disabled (I normally dont play in genuine fullscreen anyways). All unnecessary USBs have been removed, drivers are up to date, nothing is being overclocked, no mods, injectors, custom programs, etc exist.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled 3 times, as well as deleted all of the local files and folders and everything relating to FFXIV and Steam all three times. (Yes, I have reinstalled steam from scratch during this process as well).

I just want to finish the MSQ, but it does not seem to be working out at all. I am also getting tired of having to reset all of my hotbars and gear sets every time I try and fix this.

Nope, neither option works. All drivers and updates for my graphics card are completely up to date, and performing a clean boot did nothing as well. I still disconnect attempting to load into the trial.

Please try deleting the locally-saved data folder (My Documents > My Games > Final Fantasy XIV). Make sure to create a backup of this so you can replace it if it doesn't solve the issue.

When this happens, does it just say unexpected error and close down?
Or is it the infamous "fatal DirectX error"?

In that specific case, the problem seems to be the use of Nvidia graphic cards. The only way I was able to solve this, was playing the game with DirectX 11 support off, so now it uses DirectX 9. Since then I had no fatal DirectX error anymore.
To do that, you start the game, but before you enter your log in details, you use the config button on the right top. There you can set DirectX 11 support off.
You will need to adapt your graphics a bit in the controls, but it works fine.

Perhaps that fix also helps you? Might be worth a try.

I will switch soon to a new AMD card, they do not have that problem apparently.
