Thaumaturge to Black mage?

I'm new to FF, and I can't find an answer to this. Apologies in advance if this turns out to be a dumb question. What's the current way to go from Thaumaturge to Black mage? According to what I'm reading, the quest should become available in the Thaumaturge guild after completing the level 30 class quest. I've done that, currently at lvl 33, and 15 as archer as well, although I've read that that part doesn't matter any more.

Is there another prerequisite that I don't know about? This is a big enough game that I'm sure I could play for dozens more hours without stumbling across that knowledge. Thanks in advance for any help.

Did you also complete the level 20 main scenario quest, "Sylph Management"?

Indeed, the archer requirement is no longer irrelevant and is outdated information. You only need to be advanced far enough in the main scenario and have done your level 30 thaumaturge quest.

I could've sworn I had, but maybe that's it. I thought it was part of the main story quest, but I don't remember it now that I looked it up. I'll have to go back and check that NPC. Thanks.

Have you equipped your job stone? If you did your Job quest you should have it, but it doesn't equip automatically. You have to manually do it.

Sylph Management is the Job Quest gate, as previously stated. Once that's done, you'll get a quest in the Thaumaturge Guild that will end with you meeting the new NPC you'll be visiting for future quests.

When you get your Soul Crystal, you'll have to equip it manually, but you can save your gear set so that it stays on permanently unless you manually switch weapons.

Just in case you're overlooking the obvious, the quest doesn't come from the guildmaster but from the receptionist at the guild entrance.

Also after you do get the soul crystal you may have to redo your hot/cross bar... it makes one up when you equip any job

In regards to the point above, you can easily copy your THM hotbar(s) to your BLM.

i.e.
/hotbar copy THM 1 BLM 1

Yes, the same except use /chotbar.
