I really don't see what difference it makes letting light shot auto attack or pressing it 4 times in a row.

Wow's stamina system says hello ..
I think when it comes to archers and autoattack the issue comes down to would you rather have to put away your weapon then pull it out again when you want to do damage, or take your time firing arrows precisely and building up the necessary TP to pull off an attack. This also goes for mages to, autoattack for mages and range users could interrupt their flow of combat, while mages have it easier since they can use their offensive/defensive moves without having to pull out their weapons, archers do not have this luxury.

Well now that I think about it.. they could add a toggle that turns auto attack on and off so rather then having to hit 1, 1, 1, 1 for times you could hit 1.... arrow... arrrow... arrow... arrow... then hit 1 again if you want to stop autoattacking lol. I think that would be the best way to deal with a range autoattack but as for mages since they don't have any use for TP as of now there really is no point to have them use ranged attacks with their wands/staves.

On topic however as noted in your quote XIV system isn't unique at all lol, the basic concept is attacks build up points which can be used to pull off stronger moves as the battle progresses. It would be nice if future classes could implement new ways to be played, but with the class based system of being able to interchange abilities between classes it may be hard to do that.
