Does anyone have a link to an updated guide for desnthesize capping? Like the cheapest and/or fastest method for power leveling it to max for each DOH job?

Now that you can desynthesize any item for the class at any level, I doubt anyone is bothering.
Tinker's Calm and Bacon Broth now increase the amount of skill gained (with HQ versions more effective as usual).
Cheapest is going to depend on your local marketboard (or data center marketboard if you don't mind world hopping).
Items 100 levels or more over your skill seem to award the most skill gain on average so focus on those for fastest. Items 50 levels or more below your skill won't award any.
Amount of skill gained past 300 starts dropping even if you're sticking to item at least 100 levels over your skill. It's pretty slow from 350 on.
The note about getting a bonus chance at rare materials if your skill is greater than item level seems to apply to demimateria.
The only ones I find annoying to level up are CRP and ALC. I can't find anything easily bought(preferably with tomestones) for CRP to desynth, but ALC has the SMN and SCH books(currently I'm using the Scaeven ones you can buy in Kugane by the Aetheryte). Everything else you can level up from dungeon gear really.
CRP has yellow scrip accessories up to around 350 and if you run Hunt trains there's the SMN/SCH books for Nuts up to around 440.
There's very little value to leveling desynth though. Demimateria from the bonus is cheap and easily obtained now.
Topiary Moogle as well as the ilvl 205 or whatever gear you can get from the Wolf's Den are also good items to desynth. Random furniture (generally outdoor pieces) should allow you to level up CRP for very cheap.
My issue with desynth is that it's kind of a dead skill now. It doesn't really improve your chances of getting something good from desynth enough to warrant the time it takes to level it up. I have some of mine pretty high up there but even if I'm above the recommended desynth level I feel like my chances of getting stuff (e.g., from desynthing the weapons from the SB EX fights) is about the same as it was previously.
My reasons for capping them is because usually at the beggining of a new expansion you can desynth the vendor gear for leathers and other items initially early on at a profit before the price drops.
And secondly if im understanding this correctly you no longer need to desynth specific items for example shield for armorer and job specific items to level it?
Like if I switch to an alchemist and desynth a chest piece it will level alchemy desynth? Is that true or does it still have to be specific?
As far as I understand it, you can desynth even if you aren't in a relevant profession, which means it's still governed by item type. Fish for example will level up CUL desynth but I don't need to be in my fisher to do that. Anything, even DOW/DOM will do it.My reasons for capping them is because usually at the beggining of a new expansion you can desynth the vendor gear for leathers and other items initially early on at a profit before the price drops.

This is exactly how it works - you do not have to be a specific class to desynth an item.
- IE you do not have to be a Carpenter to desynth 'carpenter' items.
Instead you can desynth any item regardless of your current class, and the desynth xp will go towards the items respective class.
- IE if your currently carpenter and desynth an 'armorer' item, you will get xp towards armorer desynth skill (assuming it's not too low an ilvl item) rather than carpenter.
The only exception is regarding the weekly Desynth challenge in the challenge log. It will count any desynth done as any class, but you will only get the XP from it if you are a crafter class under 80 when you complete it.
- IE if you desynth as a DRG and all your crafters are lvl 70... you will get the gil reward but no xp.

Im just still trying to figure out how fish turn into sand or gil(those little money bags) with desynth... i guess ill just have to mst3k it... but otherwise instead of me turning in the gear from dungeons I just desynth them

You need to level Culinarian to 30 to be able to desynthesize fish.
