    Self sufficient goldsmith requirements?

Is there any job, other than miner (currently level 47), that I would need to level in order to be 98% self sufficient in goldsmith?

New to FFXIV crafting and eventually goldsmithing is something I want to do. Not looking for it to be a money maker thing. I'm fine with buying materials from regular vendors but I don't want to use the marketboard to buy stuff farmed/crafted by other players to continue to progress. I would rather grind my own.

    Thanks,

It is weird in a way because you seem to require less cross class things the higher you get in each craft. Ultimately behooves you to level pretty much all your crafting classes to some extent but it has gotten substantially easier even in the time I have been playing. Even turning in leve quests periodically will help you fly through levels. The farther along in the msq you are the easier it will be to level that way.

Goldsmith is nice also because you get a good variety of things you can make, some tools some weapons and lots of accessories. Even some good house related decorations.

Not sure where you are in the msq but the post Heavensward content will be huge in helping you level your craft(s) up. Hope this helps.

ALC will be very useful for level 54+ since that is when combat gear recipes start requiring the ALC crafted reagents. Many of those reagents will need mats from BOT/FSH.

The housing Material Suppliers, ARR Beast tribe vendors and new Material Vendors should take care of most of the materials needed from other classes until you reach level 71 recipes or are crafting Master Recipe items. For those you will need to purchase from other players at times to make the items you want if you haven't leveled the classes yourself.

Ultimately, only CUL is mostly independent of the other crafting classes (just needs a few items from ALC at times). The rest are designed to be interdependent. All of them are dependent on one or more of the gathering classes.

Keep in mind that you're able to level every single DoH/DoL class on a single character. There's no limit like some other MMOs have. Leveling has been greatly simplified this expansion with major increases to base XP earned from crafting to increases to XP earned from collectables and Grand Company Supply/Provisioning Missions, and the addition of Ishgard Restoration. I'd suggest starting with Goldsmithing and Mining, then branching out as dependence on other classes increases. Or work on leveling them up together to cut down on the amount of gear you need to keep in your Armory Chest.

Just saw Jojoya's post. That's basically what I wanted to know.

The crafting jobs are designed as interdependent and unless I have everything I won't be truly self-sufficient.

    Thanks

As a reminder 5.3 also added vendors that sell some of the more common items you need for crafts or collectibles, you could always look into them as well. I know there’s sileas in ul,dah that has gems, the scrap salvager in idyllshire sells a lot of heavensward era materials, and an npc in rhalgrs reach for that era.
