    FFXIV & FFXVI Discussions

Not the best name for a topic I could come up with but just want to see everyone's thoughts on both FFXIV and FFXVI.

We know Yoshi P has been hard at work between both these games and I can imagine since FFXVI is still a work in progress, that has taken a good bulk of his time.

Do anyone think once FFXVI is finished he'll start pushing for more content and the likes on FFXIV? Like more things to do at end game thats not crafting or extreme trials among other things.

With FFXVI, im curious if we're getting party members or will this be our character by himself? If so that would be a big change of pace in the formula and if thats the case, I can imagine a multiplayer feature separate from the story not unlike comrades from FFXV but better done. But only because the team behind FFXIV is also helping with it and would probably make the most sense if they added something they know how to do well.

Just some of my thoughts anyway.
I have no idea how Yoshi P runs things and if it makes things less or more difficult when he's focusing on 2 games being made and updated with content.

Probably one of the most obvious things that will happen, I'm sure. But with Yoshi-P's idea on XVI that he wants more 'fantasy' than tech in FF titles, and our story being driven currently with techie-type genre with a little fantasy, it will be interesting to see if a cross-over with even more fantasy with less techie things goes.

However, I have more concerns than I do expectations/desires with this. Will content suffer because of him taking on the role for the new game? I know he said that wouldn't happen, but we know how the real world works with things like this, and in the gaming industry it happens a lot more than people realize. I would expect some more delegation of his duties with XIV so he can concentrate on XVI. He would still be the overall Producer, but would probably have a lot less time devoted to XIV. How long before it changes hands? Yoshi-P is probably one of the longest running producers for a single MMO title, because other games change often depending on expectations of the company, the gaming community, money-driven ideas/things/etc.

Housing is a really hot topic for this game right now. Honestly, it hasn't been handled very well at all. We know they wanted to keep that as an 'elite status' where not everyone can have a house. Quite honestly, I don't/won't ever get that philosophy idea wrapped around my brain - that is one of the biggest selling points for an online MMO, and not putting in a housing structure for (most) everyone to obtain and enjoy is almost like cutting off your nose to spite your face for an elite status. Housing isn't elite - it's a tool and place for people to enjoy - it's one of my favorite things about this game, and I waited a very long time to get a house, and spent many an hour rather than sleeping to get one. I bring housing because the decisions behind how it's treated is frankly pissing people off and that may be getting back to the company. That can also affect how long a Producer stays in their spot (just thinking out loud here - no need for the white knights to swoop in - this is a general MMO gaming statement).

Content - Raids, Trials, Story - all of this I am sure has been laid out already for the next two to four years in terms of direction, and this might be what Yoshi-P would need to have in order to produce XVI effectively. Maybe it isn't (but I'm pretty sure it is), but unfortunately as the player-base, we only get to experience the ramifications of whats to come our way in the game. There's really no 'say-so' from us, and listening to the player-base (especially in NA) has gone the way of the dodo.

very true, yoshi p has been in charge of the reigns for a long time now and curious how it gets handled longer down the line.
but would be foolish to think its not affecting development on both games with yoshi p juggling between them.

and yes, housing is a huge mess right now. Best example of good housing would be from Elder Scrolls Online.
I don't play it as much but I do know the housing system is top notch. All instance housing and able to choose what sort of size and style of the home and area it comes with. As well as able to move and place items pretty much anywhere you please even you you want to place things hanging off the ceiling or walls you can. The houses are also permanent and account wide to boot. I always hold the housing system of ESO to how it should be done.

without going on and on about the ESO housing, I feel we need something like that in a way. One of my biggest gripes specially when they released housing in shirogane was that the small, medium, and large houses still look like houses you see anywhere else in the world right down to the inside of the houses. And I have a ton of gripes about the housing system.

I'm looking forward to FFXVI if it's made by the FFXIV crew (and looks like it is). Just imagine what they can do with a full single player game in storytelling considering what they have achieved in FFXIV's rigid MMO formula.

And presuming what the story will be about from the trailer, it'll be a very interesting and emotion loaded story I think.
