    AST Cards for Magic DPS?

    Completely noob AST question here. plz don't hurt me.

    Do any direct played AST cards have any special impact on Magic DPS?

    The tool tips say either melee DPS, tank DPS or ranged DPS (and X% for "other roles).

    My assumption given how FF14 divides DPS roles/types is that Magic DPS would then fall under the "other role" category and would not generally be a specific card target. Or does the card system buck the trend for some reason and consider magic DPS as "ranged?"

    Casters count as range so Bole, Ewer and Spire will still work on magic dps.

    This, if you look at the class list Bard, Machinist, Dancer are all Physical Ranged DPS though most call them simply "ranged"
    Casters on the other hand, your Black Mage, Summoner, Red Mage, (and Blue Mage) are all Magical Ranged DPS

    Which I haven't played AST since leveling, no plans to either thanks 5.0 revamp, but pretty sure that Healers also count in for the ranged cards so when solo the ranged cards will have more impact on yourself than the melee cards

    Ranged including magical get more of a % boost from one half of the cards and melee including tanks get the same % of boost from the other half of the cards, healers get optimal dmg % boosts from either card type.Lord and Lady cards give the most % dmg to their respective classes but do not grant you a seal.

    No, healers count as ranged, so Bole etc. give less of a damage buff.

    This is the full list of jobs that each card applies the full effect to:

    Bole (solar), Ewer (lunar), Spire (celestial), Lady of Crowns ---> Ranged (Bard, Machinist, Dancer) Caster (Black Mage, Summoner, Red Mage, Blue Mage) Healer (White Mage, Scholar, Astrologian)

    Balance (solar), Arrow (lunar), Spear (celestial), Lord of Crowns ---> Tank (Warrior, Paladin, Dark Knight, Gunbreaker) Melee (Monk, Dragoon, Ninja, Samurai)

    Cards will have half the strength when used on a job from the opposite list. N.B. Blue Mage's aetherial mimicry doesn't alter this since it's just a buff they apply to themselves. They're still Blue Mages so they get the most benefit from the ranged cards.

    No, you're misreading the tooltip. All the word self there refers to is who you can target a card at. I.e. you can use it on yourself or a party member, but not anyone outside your party. You still fall under the "if target is" part. E.g. You only get the 3% boost when targetting yourself with the Balance.

    read until the full stop, removing half the sentence completely alters the meaning.
