How radically different will 2.0 be from what we have now?

    Hey peeps,

I have been getting a bit frustrated with community sites because a lot of quests and information is missing; understandable since there have been so many radical changes as of late. So, as I was doing some AF quests with my friends I decided I may as well do my bit and I started filling in some information on said wiki sites.

It is then I realised, what if all of this information becomes completely redundant when 2.0 hits? I mean, the maps are going to be completely changed aren't they? How many of the current quests, GC quests etc etc are even going to remain? Will the dungeons still be here?

So basically, I was hoping for some clarification as to how the game will change come 2.0 in reference to quests, GC Quests; I don't want to fill in loads of wiki pages for the sake of a couple of months. Of course AF and Ifrit etc will still remain (I think) but maybe the way to get them will be a lot different.

    Thanks for reading!

    Edit: Typo

From what I gather, most of not all wiki-entires will be rendered useless by 2.0.

I believe that to be the reason why most wikis are so poor at the moment. People don't want to waste their efforts, putting a lot of time into guides that are useful for another 6-7 months.

    That's my opinion at least.

This is a very good question, and I heard a lot of rumours, suggestions, and doom-saying about what will or will not occur. What we DO know for sure will change is:

    1) Maps
    2) (Inferred from #1) Mob Locations
    3) (Inferred from #1) Details on quest locations/routes
    4) New GUI
    5) (Inferred from #4) Adjustments to battle mechanics (scope, unknown).

Some things that are not clear (to me at least, as I do not see a specific dev post saying otherwise) are:

    1) Will the Primal fights still be around to fight? (And will they be adjusted)
    2) Will the Primals still drop the same items?
    3) Will Toto-Rak/DH/DH2/CC still exist, and will they contain the same items?
    4) Will existing Grand Company quests be removed or change?
    5) What existing classes/jobs/etc be merged, changed, or significantly altered?
    6) Will there be more Hildibrand quests?

These questions, and many more, will be answered in next year's release of 2.0.

    Thank you.

    1) There would still be primals to fight. But I think the fight itself would be changes
    2) Don't know about the weapons, but they would drop some summon cards for free companies (with 2.0 or later).

There are a million FFXIV sites available now, but if you guys are interested, I'm working on setting up a FFXIclopedia/WOWwiki/Wikipedia analogue for FFXIV. I'm going to allow anonymous editing, have a list of requested pages, etc. It will hopefully include everything from lore, to dev posts, to actual in-game mechanics, strategies, and youtube videos.

The server is up and running on an Amazon EC2 instance now, but I still need to get around to getting a domain name for it.

That's cool, be sure to let us know when it's up and running however, it doesn't really help all that much with my original question about how the game will change come 2.0.

Perhaps you would be better launching the website when 2.0 launches also - maybe people will be more willing to update said wiki and you could generate quite a bit of interest on forums etc that it's a 2.0 and beyond wiki.

Yeah I know that we won't really know exactly what 2.0 will entail until we get it, but I get the impression it will almost be a completely new game; for better or worse.

I just don't want to spend lots of time updating wiki sites for it to be completely redundant.

Good question. I'd like to know more too!

I think Main Scenario will remain unchanged. I think GC will obviously still be here, but the storyline will have to change (since a lot of it deals with Dalamud, at least up to the point that I'm at). I think Job and Class stuff will be basically the same - all I've experienced so far is PLD and GLD, but they are not linked to 6th Era at all.

The maps will clearly be different, but I think dungeons and stuff will retain their general location. The world is just going to be split into zones and "fancied up". You can actually sort of see where zonelines may be going, I think. Sometimes the maps narrow down into a single twisty little canyon area, very reminiscent of FFXI zonelines...

While we know the maps are going to be redone, many people here seem to be under the impression that it's going to be like we're going to be playing a completely different game. It's not. It's not going to magically fix every problem the game has. The class and job structure we have now aren't going away. I would be very surprised if they changed every single quest we currently have. The leves are so generic they won't have to be changed at all.

The major things that are going to be changed are the server structure and the engine, and from a user's standpoint we're probably going notice a reduction in lag and a more efficient graphical engine with less hitching. Good changes, but not miracles.
