Dude those games are as niche as you can get, only weebiest of weeb play them.Except the Divinity and Persona franchises have sold millions of copies each and are lauded as some of the best games this decade. Divinity 2 in particular is considered one of the best turn-based RPG games every created with the developers now about to release Baldur's Gate 3 at the end of the month. Turn-based games are NOT niche nor is the market for them dead as some people believe.
Can't tell if sarcasm, or just if you're clearly not familiar with one of those...
Aesthetically, Divinity II and Persona 5, for instance, are night and day.
I could see why that might be stated for Persona, which is at its core an RPG with large relationship-cultivation elements over world, power, or player character development, but... Divinity?

I'll be okay with turn based combat going away if they replace it with something compelling. From what I saw of FFXV I wasn't impressed - though on the flip side I heard general positive things about FF7R's combat once people actually got to play it.
This is how I feel too. I really liked FF7R’s battle system. It was a perfect blend of action and turn based. FFXV however was awful.
I prefer turn based ultimately I just want something compelling instead of holding down or mashing one button.
FF15 combat wasn't awful imo, but it was lacking. They made the worst possible magic system of any FF title and all the other members were doing their own thing and in the end they were all the same except Prompto. Combat just narrowed down to dodge and attack and maybe, big maybe, using one of the awful magic vials because a monster was extremely vulnerable to that element.
I really liked FF13's combat except for the auto detection system that allowed you to just spam X and they would do the most optimal attack according to enemy weaknesses and distance. I like turn based combat from older FF titles as well, but it can be really long (it's what basically made the games feel so long, because combat was slower and you had to grind). FF10 for example suffered from overpowering too much, even if it was the best and truest turn based system, it all narrowed down to doing the fastest animation attack because they all did the same amount of damage in the end (one of the reasons Lulu was barely in my battles :[, even her auto attacks were awfully long).

I prefer turn based, but I'm fine with them moving to action combat- I didn't really like FFXV's feel, but FFVII felt far better so it's not like they can't do it well.
I do wonder though if they have decided that female protagonists don't sell now? Shame because FF has always been pretty balanced on having a diverse cast... though at least this one doesn't look like frat boy road trip vacation.
Here's hoping the multiplayer is good, fighting those Eikons with a group of friends would be a lot of fun, can't wait to be sent off cliff to death by super Titan.
edit- Oh, and tbh though I don't mind them doing action combat, anyone saying that they can't make a turn based FF today that'll do well is completely nuts- to date I'm pretty sure their top 5 selling FF games are still turn based ones. If FFXVII ends up being turn based (which it won't because it's going to be the MMO), it'll sell just as well as XV and XVI, if not better.

Reason I won't buy this one, either. Are we ever going to have another female-led masterpiece like VI?

I'm not opposed to having a female lead since I enjoy them a great deal when done right. VI was done right. 13 was not, but not because of Lightning honestly, though I personally didn't think she was that interesting. She lacked any real personality. I'd be willing to bet that 13 has been a factor in their decision making the last few years, though I doubt that had anything to do with Lightning being the main character and female. The games just sucked. lol However, In the 16 trailer alone there was at least 3-4 different female characters. It's unfair to judge it in that respect as things currently stand. We know next to nothing about it. It doesn't appear that we're going to have another 6 or 13 with a female lead but they usually do an excellent job of adding them to the main cast and keeping them just as relevant as the main character. 15 wasn't my favorite game and I do think the main characters were somewhat lacking. It goes to show that character gender isn't really a factor when it comes to making a good game. 15 to me was a bit subpar. SE just needs to focus on making a good game. Hopefully FF 16 is one such game. We haven't had a truly good single player FF game for a long time now aside from the FF7 Remake...but that's a remake, not a brand new title.
