Why was placing tabletop items anywhere nerfed?

Before the last patch, I could place tabletop items at any level. So after I spent hours lofting and glitching floors and furniture, it was easy to place tabletop items on top of the furniture on lofted/glitched furniture up on "second floor" spaces.

Now that seems to have been nerfed.

Why? What harm was it doing to be able to place tabletop items anywhere in space and make it easy for decorating? How did this nerf at all improve game play?

Can we please have this rolled back to make decorating slightly easier once more instead of having to loft and glitch every single last little item we want to place in a house/apartment when we want multiple levels lofted/glitched?

SE was being tone deaf as usual. Same as how their new loft item that was supposed to be a replacement for loft glitching but it doesn't let you place whatever you want.

Floating items shouldn't even be a practice that is needed imo. I float things alot, but what a boring waste of time. It is more of a work out doing that than dragging sofas upstairs sometimes. Just an issue that plagues housing in general. Like finally get a plot? Have fun deco'ing it XD

I'm in the middle of redecorating and I'm not having any issues placing/glitching items as I always do.

Can you be more specific about the trouble you're having?

Also make certain you have counter placement enabled. If it's disabled, you're not going to be able to place items anywhere other than the "real" walls and floor.

I don't understand their reasoning. I mean, is it that they don't want people to share videos of weirdly floating things so it brings dishonor to their alleged perfect game? Actually, come to think of it, is there any other MMO that actually cares how you place objects in a house? The more I think about it, the more I realize that FF14 is unique in these regards. Please stop "fixing" our ability to place items where we want them to. The fact that we now have to glitch something one centimeter at a time until it reaches the desired height is a HUGE WASTE OF TIME. The housing glam culture is a unique one and we take pride in our creations. But to make it happen we have to glitch things because there is no other way to place them in the correct spot. It's not like we are trying to break the game, no... We are just doing what should be available from the start.

Personally I think that the devs don't actually play with housing things. They just add it into the game and that's that. They don't take part of housing culture so they just don't get us and act like Nintendo's lawyers when we do things not originally intended.

But yea there are mmos where you can't place items willy nilly in housing. BDO is one i know of as I play off and on. YOu are locked to placement and its a tad worse than FFXIV but you can pretty much get a place anywhere in the game world be it in the city, out on a farm. AI want to say FFXI is extremely limited but in some ways they at least nailed some of the of the mog house which in some ways are tons better than apartments. Definitely like the clock they have for the wall in FFXI. tons better than what we have for our clocks in game. I wish I could bring it here lol. But I digress furniture in FFXI was grid placement.

But I don't think they sit there and rub their hands together laughing while taking things like that away. As far as I am aware decorating is a huge thing with them. I suspect something happened with someone glitching and it caused an unintended consequence. So they removed it to prevent said consequence? Only the devs knows why.

I don't understand what that glitch could have been. Players put objects outside the bounds of the house via glitches and that doesn't crash the game. If you place something in a way where you can't grab it with your cursor, you can always retrieve it via the menu.

What I really don't get is why you can't put wall stuff on walls except for a few blank areas. It seems to me whatever setting table top items are set to should be applied to all furnishings except wall-mounted items. Partitions should count as both table top AND walls. The top of a partition should be a table, like with the half-height partitions. Don't change the labels on anything. Just make it so you can actually put furnishings ON lofts and stack partitions. So you don't have to glitch windows onto partitions, or even be forced to use partitions in the first place to cover over windows, which is a waste of item count when all you want to do is just cover a window. For that matter, give me a wallpaper option (or other toggle in the remodel interior menu) to get rid of pillars and windows in the first place, and only keep the entrance and FC interior door. That would be super popular and save players spaces for what we really want to do. It's not like the windows actually correspond to anything on the outside anyway.
