I do believe most of the $18 outfits were the ones commissioned by the korean/chinese servers for their cash shops.
They were brought over by popular demand.

And the prices they sold them for are equivalent to what they are over here...

We would never have gotten those for cheaper.

This is Final Fantasy XIV, not ESO nor WOW or any other online game with more expensive optional items, just because those games are pricier doesn't mean this one has to follow their practices.

Players can do whatever they want with their money, my problem is I'm not satisfied with the quality of the optional items and the fact not all of them are account-wide, since it's my money I decide if the items are worth it or not.

Now if all the players decided to punish SE with their wallets I'm sure they would end up bowing to the players wishes and making a better game, it's a business after all.

I want a modern FFXIV with models and textures worth of a 4K resolution, most players will agree that what we have right now is far from looking good when zoomed in.

SE excuses itself by saying the PS4 is what holds back the game but they could well make the PC version better and adapt it to the other platforms, players would hardly notice any difference in their own platform and they could always upgrade to PC.

If we had better models and textures then maybe I wouldn't feel the prices for optional items were too expensive, they would still need to be account-wide.

No one can tell whether money from optional items goes back to the game or not, it just doesn't make sense that this game which makes a fortune for SE receives a poor budget for new expansions and content, this game feeds SE, they must make this game better.

If the prices are truly outrageous for you then not buying the products is absolutely a form of protest. What I'm seeing people take issue with is the passive aggressive clap backs and the idea that people /deserve/ these items.

And since its not worth it to you, you've lost nothing. Other people feel it is worth something to them so they buy it. Why would people punish them for items that they like and purchase?

All optional, not needed. You do not need a four-person mount.

the ps4 isn't what's holding the game back. it's their threshold of min spec PC requirements to play the game.

Gotta question how they think it's reasonable to price gender-restricted, undyable, self-stored items so high but since it's the only way to get those looks it's not like players have an alternative.

Gotta decide if inferior items with exclusive looks are worth that cost to you, skip it, or wait for a sale.

Years later their Time boxes are still going strong, each one dumber than the last, even more loot added to collect skill points from to the point where they have become P2W.

Now I played Tera a little bit to and really liked it. Never would have thought Loot boxes would slither their way into Tera though.
sounds like it did the same thing Tera did T.T We have been abused. :c Well atleast with loot boxes. I don't remember Tera putting points in their cash shop, but if they do I wouldn't put it past them. Why are game companies so mean to us? :c Like just give us good games and we'll stay and play. I promise you.

It has been stated by YoshiP that mogstation items directly goes into FFXIV and no other sources at SE. Funds acquired from subscriptions and other similar services however are also used for not only FFXIV, but also other titles SE may be developing or supporting.

Furthermore, what people dont understand is that while we have at 'high tide' 1.5 million subs with 18 a sub average (this is sub + spare retainer averaged across player base), this only generates 27 Million a month. That seems like a ton of money, but then you start factoring in taxes, legal services, server costs, building costs, utilities, employee costs (dev teams, financing, marketing, secretary staff, etc), production costs, supplies and resources, outsourcing costs for localization among other things, office supplies, support staffing (janitors, IT, maintenance and the like), other team projects that require funding, and that 27 million shrinks quite a bit. It costs a ton of money to keep a company like SE running, much like any company. Yes, they generate a steady cash revenue and I bet are running a profit, but the point is that just because they pull down 27 million per month when things are great doesnt mean they can spend all 27 million or line their pockets with it.

To put this into perspective, btw, SE employs around 5k people globally with the average salary being 55k, give or take a small bit. This means that per month, they spend about 22 Million in wages. Now of course this is all rough estimates that are thrown together with what you can find on google, but the point is that the money SE makes from FFXIV isnt as much as people think it is.

Barely read the other comments, don't need to. It's capitalism 101, you can charge what the market will bear. People are buyin this stuff, myself included. The market is bearing the price. The price is correct *shrug*
