    6.0 Expansion Possible New Jobs Discussion

    So as everyone knows, 5.3 has provided some hints at some possible new jobs coming in the next expansion. Of course these are only possibilities and speculation, but apothecary and necromancer are the two big ones I see tossed around a lot.

    Personally, I'd like to see additional jobs branching off of the existing classes, a la scholar/summoner. It's already a system implemented they can build off of, and there are tons of ways they can re-imagine some of the classes. As someone who started off as an Archer, I'd LOVE for a job that was more bow-oriented and less song-focused. And from an RP standpoint personally don't like being railroaded into playing one class into one job. For example, going from rogue to ninja realllyyyyy isn't a progression I wanted to play from an RP standpoint and I know I'm not the only one who feels this way. Of course this is only a matter of opinion.

    These are the ones I can think of, including the ones hinted in 5.3:

    Rogue -> Thief, Assassin
    Archer -> Ranger, Beast Master/Tamer, Sniper (crossbows, anyone?)
    Thaumaturge -> Necromancer/Voidmage, Blood Mage
    Conjurer -> Druid, Green Mage
    Marauder -> Barbarian, something with a Warhammer (warlord maybe?)
    Gladiator -> Raider, Swashbuckler/Duelist (like how Arcanist starts as DPS and splits into healer, this could start as a tank and split into DPS)
    Lancer -> Cavalry (This could be a limited job, it's a reaaaal spitball lmao)

    And then there are the jobs I've heard that would be entirely new jobs:

    Alchemist/Chemist/Apothecary (the potions/poisons master)
    Geomancer

    Some of these jobs have history in the Final Fantasy series (from FFX-2, FFXI, etc.) so it wouldn't be outside the realm of possiblity.

    In any case, I'm curious to know everyone's thoughts! What do you think of the possibility of more branches in the classes-to-jobs progression, what jobs do you think we'll see come 6.0, and/or what jobs would you like to see come in the future?

    Sorry to break it to you but the devs of the game hates that smn and sch both are tied to acn. I know a lot of us were excited to see what else they would do with it back in ARR, like making arc go into ranger or bard or having berserker come off marauder for a dps. Sadly, too many limitations I guess.

    But I would like to see another melee that shares maiming gear and a new caster. I would like another healer but until they figure out what they want to do with the 3 we have now, I want to them to hold off

    I think having a branching progression like we got with Arcanist was a mistake. Including the whole thing about Summoner and Scholar sharing the Arcanist battle stance/victory pose.
    I'd rather see them continue to not tie new Jobs to classes, and ideally find a way to phase out classes completely while keeping the pre-Job storylines intact for the Jobs that "upgrade" via acquisition of a Job crystal.

    This does not rule out adding Jobs like Ranger, Thief and the like and I'd personally be glad to have both of them. They just wouldn't be tied to a class.
    Out of the potential new Jobs you've listed the only one that seems to be extremely unlikely is Necromancer, given how Necromancy and the Undead are viewed by Eorzean society. All others are, at least in theory, entirely possible candidates. The only thing holding them back is if the development team decides we have enough Jobs to pick from.

    I'm still holding out hope for a fourth healer that is not a spellcaster (well at least as far as presentation goes, it more than likely will have cast times) and some semblance of healer balance that does not involve homogenization to the point where all of them are the same Job by a different name.
    Beyond that (and 6.0) I could see them eventually giving us one more physical ranged DPS and one more magic DPS Job to round out the roster (unless they convert BLU into a full Job to use as the 4th magic DPS) and then calling it good enough.
    Balance seems to be a real problem for them already and adding more Jobs into the mix is not going to make things easier - again, unless they do more homogenization of roles.
