Renaming Abilities?

FFXI had it bang on with spell naming for those cases.

Single target spells: Fire, Fire II, Fire III, etc
AoE spells: Firaga, Firaga II, Firaga III

Simple. Easy to understand.

I totally prefer this one. It makes complete sense.
