I know everyone loves to claim they withhold cross-glamouring so they can recycle gear sets, but I think it's more likely that if they weren't giving us recycled-and-shuffled sets then they'd still be giving us just as many recycled sets but (in lieu of needing to shuffle them) slightly different colours or something.

See ARR where there are less job restrictions and they still just cycle the same few designs over and over.

They wouldn't magically decide to put more budget into original sets just because they've removed class locks.

No, it would ruin immersion. Now go tank with your frog suit or heal in swimsuit.

    I am for and against.
I think class specific relic gear so, SCH only etc should stay as such. These gears are exactly for the specific class and should stay as such, if you want to look any iconic iteration of your class or mix parts, it still tells what you are from immediate glance, even if the weapon is hidden.

I think cross class armor from warriors to mages etc should be case-by-case basis, it should need a class that still can equip that armor leveled up on your character, and possibly a system where you "reduce" the gear into zero stat glam piece but still retains the level limit, much like you can use craftsman /gatherer gear as glamour, level restrictions still applying. I feel the list should be curated, class specific gear being definitely out even if SCH has best bottoms ever and I want em on every class, I also don't. On other side; if you want to look certain way, play certain way is a valid argument too... I rarely wish to cross class glamour stuff that I already said I am against. Yeah I want my SCH socs on WHM but I also don't. I am not a in absolute conflict myself at all times, but I be.

Weapons should definitely stay restricted to class. This will not work, no glamouring axes to poles or anything such. The game already has wide array of every weapon type to use one you like.

Though; Make lightning's blade work also for gunblades. IIRC it still is just a paladin sword.

Because of popularity of all the different nier pieces, this could even be, for now, just specific to the nier gear pieces.

    My thinking is:
To get what you want to look like, you'd have to play compatible class to increase likelihood of winning the rolls for it. Even if you win by greed, you still need to have the specific class in max level just as marker you are "worthy of the gear" and then have a way to pay or do or pray something. This gear reduction will now force you to get the piece again if you want it for stats though, or if the gear is still good piece for your alt class you would think twice of "discarding it" as a gear piece.
Same could be done to sky pirates sets, some people liked those etc.

Limited would retain class fantasy, Make players have to make choices and keep it so that class specific stuff is good.

Also I saw a male mi'qote in 2B outfit because of "class fantasy" - Duel is already a female because males were in my eyes that incompatible with healer class fantasy. What class fantasy?
But, there is some of it... Just inconsistent.

I'm not going to say I'm for or against, but I do want to point out, on the cash shop you can get a scythe, it is the same scythe for 5 classes. Black Mage, White Mage, Dragoon, Warrior, and Dark Knight.

Basically the right Glam, and this weapon, you'll not know what class they are unless you look at their info.

Or you could look at their battle stance which will tell you which class they actually are.

Also, giving the scythe to a few specific classes whose stances are compatible with it still isn't quite the same thing as letting anyone glamour it over anything. How's it going to go when an archer or monk tries to use it?

(Plus that technical issue of only glamouring items of the same type even when there's no class restrictions. We can't even glamour wands over staffs because they're considered different item types even when equippable by the same class.)

They won't, even with this dumb notion of class/job fantasy. I say dumb because if you realise, the bulk of players rarely ever glamour a whole armour set. They might glamour one-2 pieces.

Players these days from what they wear don't seem to care a lot about this class fantasy nonsense.

Right? They'd rather wear a knitted sweater and fuzzy carbuncle slippers.

It doesn't matter if they care or not. The game still remains a fantasy genre, and you only need look at how the MSQ is written, the lore that's canon, the way maps and jobs are designed, the dialogue, among many other things to know this.

I also wouldn't let the minority represent the majority. It is very common for me to see a tank in a frog outfit at the gold saucer. Seeing one in an actual duty is actually quite rare. From my experience, players really enjoy looking the part of their job or role and mixing their own flavour into it.

Where are you playing? Because when I queue for randoms, it's the weapon and stance that lets me know who's who, not the glams. The number of times it's a cute catgirl tank in a cute dress with a giant sword is kind of overwhelming. Also, the number of male characters in a thong running around really makes me question what the actual percentage of .... (nevermind).

Basically, I just got done with a random with a Barista Tank, and hula girl as a Dragoon, and hells, I was doing my Blackknight Red mage look. The Healer was a lala, and frankly, I can never tell what they are going with as their fairy is larger than they are.
