More Ethic Hairstyles

Leaving aside the "ethnic" vs. "baseline" argument about hairstyles (though I admittedly understand annoyance at the "ethnic" terminology)... yes, please, more diversity in hairstyles would be great. It seems like 60% of the hair is a variation on "generic vaguely-androgynous male JRPG protagonist".

To add to GW2, Valley of the Gods, et al., I'll note that Monster Hunter World also has some decent hairstyle options with passable physics on them:



I suspect there are limitations in the way the FFXIV engine handles (or "handles") soft-body/cloth/hair physics which would impact any attempt to implement some of these hairstyles, though; I used to use the dreadlocks hairstyle and it clipped through like 80% of the clothing in the game and gradually drove me bonkers. When I changed to short hair for a while, the lack of clipping made it so I just couldn't go back.

These are perfect examples on what we need for different styles. SE should consider doing them regardless of the contests.

And I don't know what was going on in this thread, but please keep it neutral and respectful. This is all about adding hairstyles with more ethnic flavor to them. I would also want hairstyles from other areas. like punk, Chinese, Brazilian, heck even 70s British styles would be great too. Just less band boys and anime stuff.

This game needs more curly hair, period. That afro is borderline offensive and the female only dreads look like shitty hippy hair.

I truly do hope we get a second hair design contest (that players can't fuck up with player voting, like the gear design contest they should pick the winners themselves). I know a few artist including myself who are more than willing to give SE free work if it means more black hair in this game. At least that way if they don't pick any I could place all the blame on SE instead of this weeby fanbase voting for what they think is cute.

And yes, GW2 has such a great CC system compared to this game it's not even a contest. They have shoulder glam, they have account wide glam locker system, they have dye channels, your character can have different body shapes (!!!) and each race has a fair amount of racial gear that only they can wear. They even had an expac where they gave players a ton of black hair styles and faces. Only thing I don't like is that in order to change your hair you have to use a cash-shop item (You CAN buy cash-shop items with in game money at least).

More wavy/curly/braided/shaved hair would be nice, but going from the few that we already have I'll take a gamble guessing the devs just don't know how to implement non-straight hair textures without it looking off.

I feel like they could do it. The viera hairs are so big, that if they just textured them differently, they could work. If people could make sims 2 hair look natural with braids and curly hair, so can XIV. The dreads we have are awful and go straight on the ends, the afro is comical and annoying, and the shaved designs are also really ugly.

But I get the feeling the designers don't like doing hair, as all the good hairstyles we get have been fan designed...

Naah, the devs have shown to have gotten better and better at making new hair styles since those days when we got shit-locs and 70s fro. All the Viera hair looks HQ af and everything since the HoH hair has looked good.

Lack of long hair is the result of that Fan contest and their desire to take their time giving us Hair crums as rewards tied to content instead of "dump all these lame contest winners in a batch and be done with it". They know people want longer hair styles, tis why most of the Viera hair are long and why they toss in long hair when they're not doing contest winner ish.

Gaia's hair would likely come with her mogstation outfit it she gets one. Or it could be a reward like the hair from the end of the SB 24 men raids. Either way her role in the story isn't over yet so there's no point crying about not getting her hair style yet.
