Conclusion: We really like FATES, but lie to ourselves.

Yokai event has proven that to me, the community really loves FATES. The sense of community, of working together, of appreciating the world; and the FATES themselves are actually pretty endearing, specially the way they were designed in A Realm Reborn, as opposed to HW, SB, Shb.

What do you all say? What's your feed back to Square enix? Are you all willing to admit that you actually really like FATES but just need an incentive to do them beyond exp?

I'd like FATEs if they better made use of the elements you attribute to them ("sense of community, of working together, of appreciating the world").

As they currently stand, though? Generally not.

Fates are nice when you have a train but when you're solo and the gauge barely fill it's annoying

Fates are ok, but they're kinda boring imo. I haven't even picked up the yokai event this time around.

I think the difficulty / HP of the mobs could scale better regarding the amount of players participating in it. So if you are solo its not too slow and not too fast being in a group.
On the other hand it should give you benefits when playing in groups.. since its not a Singleplayer RPG. It still is focused on multiplayer.

They're okay once in a while, but they get repetitive quickly. Just killing waves of enemies or collecting bear asses until a gauge fills isn't terribly compelling.

I like the mounts and putting in a bit of effort for them.

The FATE's have been ok and suit grind format quite well but they're rather messy. They scale badly. People don't always work together, a lot of areas had people splitting off and doing multiple FATES at the same time. BLU just isn't suited for social FATEs, it's designed to blast them down while they're dead content. HW and SB still have those really annoying pre-FATES that give tiny exp but consume your Fate EXP bonus and Twist of Fate buff, then the "real" FATE triggers.

ShB was a fair bit better with FATE currency. A bit more exp and they could be workable. They still need to spice them up somehow.

I've always enjoyed them but they're very much a sometimes food for me. I could never spend hours and hours doing nothing but FATEs but given a better reward structure and better group size scaling I would likely do them more than I do. What stops me from doing them more as they are now is just that there doesn't feel like there's any reason to do them outside of the ShB zones because, prior to that, they give such pitiful XP and no external rewards. In other words, the FATEs themselves are largely fine but I feel I can spend my time in game better doing other things.
