Conclusion: We really like FATES, but lie to ourselves.

Yokai event has proven that to me, the community really loves FATES. The sense of community, of working together, of appreciating the world; and the FATES themselves are actually pretty endearing, specially the way they were designed in A Realm Reborn, as opposed to HW, SB, Shb.

What do you all say? What's your feed back to Square enix? Are you all willing to admit that you actually really like FATES but just need an incentive to do them beyond exp?

I'd like FATEs if they better made use of the elements you attribute to them ("sense of community, of working together, of appreciating the world").

As they currently stand, though? Generally not.

Fates are nice when you have a train but when you're solo and the gauge barely fill it's annoying

I think the difficulty / HP of the mobs could scale better regarding the amount of players participating in it. So if you are solo its not too slow and not too fast being in a group.
On the other hand it should give you benefits when playing in groups.. since its not a Singleplayer RPG. It still is focused on multiplayer.

Agreed. The way fates work is the FATE difficulty is determined by how many people were there when it ended THE LAST TIME IT APPEARED.

Which means, if there was a fate train there and 30 people participated in it, killed it, and then left?

You're going to be there for a LONG time if that train leaves elsewhere and you have to solo it. Which often happens.

Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]

Fates are nice when you're solo, and don't have to fight 50 people for credit, or listen to their "clever" conversation.

I agree.. they should scale based on the amount of players that hit the mobs.

What you experienced is like more of an effect of FATEs scaling based on the number of participants the previous spawn had. At minimum scaling, most non-achievement FATEs can be completed solo in about 5 min by an at level character in proper gear.
