    Raising the item level is pointless outside of savage.

    With 6.0 being the next expansion, and I assume Square-Enix will be going nuts with the item level for leveling dungeons I'm here to say this simple thing.


    It is pointless to raise the item level of gear outside of savage/tome gear.

    Here is why.

    (I will start with why item level matters for raid/tomes.)

    Crafting gear needs to be relevant, so the normal mode raid item level would be equal to the crafting gear item level.

    Lets say 510 for the next raid.
    So thats:
    -510 Normal Raid/Crafted gear.
    -520 Tome gear/Upgraded crafting gear, 24 man raid gear.
    -530 Next cap item level.


    Here is why any other item level is pointless.

    -Dungeons, level and/or item level sync you.
    -Bozja item level syncs you.
    -Unreal item level syncs you.


    Most importantly:
    All gear basically just becomes glamour in the long run. No gear is customizable and lasts longer than a "Even number" patch cycle. No gear is upgradable, lasting longer than a "even number" patch cycle.

    I feel it would be much much much more sensible to create all the dungeon gear as level 1, so its usable by all level jobs within that given category, and it also saves up a lot of development time if they spread out the gear designs.

    Doing this would also free up time to develop gear properly for all races especially the very neglected Hrothgar and Viera.


    TLDR:
    Gear item level only matters in raids/savage/crafting.

    The rest is glamour.

    Stop wasting time making gear just for the sole purpose of item level inflation, and spend more time on the things players ask for such as headgear and back gear that properly fits Hrothgar, Viera, Miqo'te and Au Ra.

    It would also be ideal if Ultimates were released with the first and second raid tiers of an expansion, this way all savage gear is "relevant."

    If this were done,

    -First raid tier gear would be suited for first raid tier ultimate.
    -Second Raid tier gear for Second raid tier ultimate.
    -Final Raid tier gear for leveling.


    If it is unquestionable to make gear that lasts beyond a single raid tier, this would be the sensible path to make things feel at least somewhat purposeful.

    Logically speaking, doing savage on the current raid tier, with Ultimate not existing, the only reasons would be:

    "Fun"
    Achievements
    Glamour

    There is no "real logical" reason to do savage/upgrade tome gear when the time investment is not incentivized per the game itself.

    One could argue that raising the ilevel is pointless for Savages as well, all they have to do is keep the instances the same amount of damage output and input the entire 2 year expansion cycle. This is probably how you lose subscriptions btw.

    I do, however agree with this sentiment. I always thought that it was a little weird that the tome gear upgrades being a side grade to raid gear, was a little silly. Also locking the upgrades in these raids untill theyre released in an easier manner in another patch later. Raid gear should be some next level stuff, maybe having a caveat where it is customizable similarly to how the HW relics were, but obviously not some painful grind. Id even be okay with it being 5 10 15 i levels higher than the upgraded tome gear, but then the raids would probably be stupidly overtuned and nearly impossible to clear until level cap and unsync the following expansion, so i dunno, the side grade really isnt much of an incentive beyond people that just want to clear the stuff, casuals can just wait until the upgrades are more available. IDK i guess people just want the achievement, and the mounts. Then unsub for 6 entire months till another raid comes out.
