Nub Question about Topaz Carbuncle / Titan

I'm a nub slice when it comes to SMN. I just started leveling it....Meaning actually leveling it from the start on an alt.

Is there any point to using Topaz? Especially since it doesn't tank anymore it seems kind of pointless. I mean Emerald just seems like the better choice all around.

I assume Titan will be the same boat until they add some super powered egi rotation with Bahamut and Phoenix. Still...Just kind of weird to have a useless smn around. Then again selene used to be in the same boat. IDK you tell me.

For bosses from level 15 to level 30. Garuda-Egi's Wind Blade is 30 Potency, Titan-Egi's Rock Buster is 60 Potency. While Garuda-Egi does have Aerial Slash from Egi Assault I, Titan-Egi will still put out more damage over time from it's auto-attacks.

Topaz has the barrier now as well, so if you need that little extra protection because you're not comfortable in certain fights/encounters then it's fairly useful. Otherwise you'd mostly be using Emerald/Garuda or Ruby/Ifrit once you get more experienced.
