You do realize most people who are into the same sex doesn't showboat it and is in every other respect indistinguishable from straight people, right? Tbh i don't want to randomly know what npc's are into, i don't think it matters, nor do i want characters inserted (boom) just for the sake of representation, because that begs crappy writing.
Anyways, the real reason why ppl are angry that this thread goes on is because the attention it gets should be given to the actual gameplay problems, problems that the OP's post have nothing to do with. A lot of people here could have figured that much out of they had stopped to think a little.
The problem is that it takes 2 at least to fill the thread with 97 (maybe 100?) pages over the span of only 10 days. The reason why people is angry is because people lack the necessary calm and mature behaviour to engage in discussion on political or social matters, specially about those that are bound to spark heat, like the whole LGBT movement. And titanmen (OP) definitely knew this thread was going to spark heat, which is why it exists. And I reiterate, it takes 2 to tango, before someone even thinks about using this to delude themselves the "other side" is the inmature one and they're the mature ones. You do realize most people who are into the same sex doesn't showboat it and is in every other respect indistinguishable from straight people, right? People who already belong to the accepted ingroup in society always have a hard time imagining what it's like not being part of the normalized group. Representation is not only a step towards normalization of a previous group outside the norms of society but also gives them a voice to speak with. When you have a voice and a language to speak with as group you can achieve something as group, otherwise your problems will go unheard. You do realize most people who are into the same sex doesn't showboat it and is in every other respect indistinguishable from straight people, right? I always find it very strange when people bring up the bad writing argument, I've seen it time and time again when the hot topic in gaming was female protagonists. It always went something like 'female protagonists are fine but only if they are written well'. Is that not a standard we have for how male protagonists are written?
They bring up because its a real thing that has happened. You cannot prop up writing with just saying you're taking a stance for minorities. Anyways, ff14 never portrayed itself as wanting to do that, it has no obligation to, and acting like everyone who don't choose to fight every minorities battle are against them is the most cringe thing ever.People who already belong to the accepted ingroup in society always have a hard time imagining what it's like not being part of the normalized group. So does bad writing only annoy us when it's together with representation? Obviously the answer is no. So why is it so much more of a topic whenever representation is involved? My impression is that it's never about the bad writing or perceived bad writing but instead just about drumming up disdain for an outgroup. They bring up because its a real thing that has happened. Writing is central to every story focused game, so too to this one, that is about final fantasy. Tbh, the disdain i see in the comments are for people who tries to turn this into some major issue when it isn't one. Not all media has to represent minorities.
When a population that hardly had any representation until recently starts getting it and the most notable portion of characters (that is characters portrayed in big media installments) are poorly written (which will happen if the company tries to shove it to meet an invisible quota), it can create a bias against people from that population. Straight people has been the predominant type so, even if bad apples pop up there is enough good reference to soften the blow, which is why people pay less attention to those (though some are so hilariously bad they become a source of memes). So does bad writing only annoy us when it's together with representation? How people react to that bias is up to each person, though. Some simply are skeptical, others cry murder. There are also people who's as muleheaded about this that they will replicate the same behavior of those who demand for content (games, movies, series, you name it) representing their collective but facing the opposite direction, with both compensating their lack of numbers by simply being noisier. As a matter of fact, you might notice that, since the necro 10 days ago, most of the post come from the same 4-5 people and the rest is a random poster giving his take and some lurkers staying just to throw peanuts for amusement.

Is it a bannable offense to name your FC <<LGB>> ?
While I see how it might be interpreted as offensive, those initials could mean anything for all the GMs know and for most people LGBT people included. So it shouldn't be unless you explicitly give it an offensive meaning.
