Yes actually it does hurt some people. For every person that find it to be a virtue to accept, there are 10 times more who tolerate something because they value freedom of choice -- not endorse it. Many of us believe EVERYONE should keep such preferences in the confines of their own bedroom.
To those people, such requests are basically a slap in the face. You may wish to browbeat them into feigning "acceptance" when that is not their honest opinion, but you should be thankful that such folks don't honestly want to ostracize those who think differently than themselves, so don't abuse that kindness. Then of course you also have people that would be as offended by the inclusion of such content. After that there would be the category of those offended by not explicitly taking a stance against LGBT stuff.
AFTER those groups you have a significant group of players from 13-18 whom may well be not allowed to play anymore. That's perhaps the most sad and cruel as the next generation of Final Fantasy fans.
It is unwise for commercial entities to take stances on such issues, for every special interest that is pandered to there are many more whose experience is damaged to a varying degree. Further it is rather gross for you to want them to, rather than to express their own artistic inclinations. Make your own game if you want to see your inclinations reflected.
Rather ridiculous than anyone has to tell you this. The above stratification of preferences applies to basically everything that anyone has an opinion about ever. For you to think it is OK to ask for special treatment demonstrates that the problem isn't one of you missing out on anything, but that you believe yourself special and above others. That all should bow to thy whims.
