I see it as a "take it as you will" ending, which I actually prefer over the generic Hollywood kiss and all that crap, regardless of orientation. Whether Ryne and Gaia end up in a relationship, they're friends first and foremost (which is really what any relationship should be based upon anyways, but I digress)

Imo western media has a serious issue separating love and lust, specially when it's about lgbt+ characters.
