Frustrating relative lack of LGBT NPCs in this game

Making broad generalizations about a group of people isn't a good thing to do. The way some people speak about "the cishets" is not in any way better than how homophobes broadly generalize LGBT people, I think it's understandable that such only divides people more so than it needs to. 90% of the time what they really mean to say is homophobes, but put it as a broad generalization towards such a large group of people without hesitation. There's plenty of disdain towards them as well, I've seen it in communities, as a bisexual attacks on heterosexual relationships "hurt" just as much as attacks on homosexual ones, so do better.

I agree that using cishets like that is horrible. I call it out too. Because it harms everyone to use words that are supposed to be neutral like gay trans cis hetero as insults. the reason the word cishet came up is because we were talking about a weird image that implied cis and hetero people are being kicked out by diversity. Also you shouldn't base your views on people based on twitter. Twitter is literally designed to show you stuff it thinks you'll hate. It shows me nothing but transphobes until I went on a blocking spree. I'm trying my best to educate but it feels like nobody wants to listen.

This crap is only going on because people with crap mentalities keeps the crap alive. It is a weird sort of parasitic behavior really, how they all leech off one another because there is no other way to keep it alive. Is that what people want? There is no need to represent it so hard just because people on the internet like to live it out that way. It would actually be immersion breaking.

Other than that there are plenty npcs that show affection to the WoL regardless of the gender so you can view them like you want. There is no canon that sets in stone that they are straight.

Having read through most of this thread, I'm a little confused. I mean, I'm all for LGBT representation - I really am. But the game as a whole doesn't really touch on relationships in general in terms of the MSQ. I guess Moenbyrda and Urianger, possibly - although that was very brief and off-screen. The Twins parents and Moenbyrda's parents being another few, rare, examples.

However, in terms of the OP, I'd actually say that might be a foundation in the idea that Gaia and Ryne might have romantic feelings for each other and the official art of them has them holding hands, so the subtext is there at least.

(may have already been addressed, but I'd rather not go through ever page of this already-long thread to check!)

But on the whole relationships in general seem to be something the game's story side-steps.

Not at all. Here's a very quick and easy rewrite so you can better understand what is being asked for.

"Oh thank you for bringing me that book my dear, my husband, Dillion, is a big fan of it, but I've never read it personally."

"I have another request though, could you go and fetch me a potion from the alchemist? Dillion is feeling under the weather, and I hope a salve might soothe his aches and pains."

You see how now, the dialogue just resembles any sidequest that might be done to help out any couple? Indeed, you wouldn't even know it was "gay" dialogue until you saw it being spoken by a male npc.

Oh wow, I was just reminded of Doctor Who when Bill was a companion. Not a single episode with her where she did not have to remind everyone and everything that she is a black lesbian. It detracts so much from literally everything.
