Frustrating relative lack of LGBT NPCs in this game

And right there is where you misunderstand the situation. People being a couple is NOT them being sexualized.

You are giving them a sexual orientation so yes it is. I didn’t mean it as sexual objectification. Please open a dictionary: the word has a much broader meaning (it can simply be to endow with sex, attribute sex). Personally, I don’t really care or think about what npcs sex life’s/ orientations are. Imagine them as you want if it pleases you.

We can do this song and dance until the end of time but at the end of the day if it doesn't have anything to do with the story then who cares? Fanfiction exists, go wild. Now bury this thread.

Lol, what planet are you from? EVERY reference to a guy having a wife or woman having a husband is a straight story line. Its literally impossible to not interact with straight story lines. And news flash, no one objects to these and never has. Yet this thread is full of people saying "no social justice", and "devs should just make good game", and stuff like that - which totally ignores that virtually every story caters to them already.

There are a lot of "relationships aren't a part of the story or quests" posts but aren't there a load of side quests where you're helping someone find their husband/wife or something like that where it is very clear that two heterosexual people are in a relationship. Also do we not remember Dulia-Chai and Chai-Nuzz, who are very clearly in a relationship and a prominent part of the ShB story. So yes there are lots of instances of heterosexual couples everyone just doesn't notice it because its so "normal".

Then explain why everyone is against this, but won't crusade to have all instances of married couples removed from the game? Its not sexualization of a game for a quest to help some guy find his wife. Yet the majority of this thread would consider it if it was helping a guy find his husband.

Then that would include literally every teen romance story, every hallmark film, or even just the presentation of someone having a parent at all. There are implications much broader than a simple definition. People having an orientation or being in a relationship is not them being sexualized.

FF14 is a wonderful game. It's beautiful, the gameplay is fluid, the lore rich, and the graphics stunning, especially in the Azim Steppe.

Part of the reason why it's so wonderful is because it is possible to fully immerse yourself in this game. Characters all have a backstory, many NPCs are fleshed out, have their own personality, and you really feel like Eorzea is a place you can live in.

However, the lack of representation of LGBT characters in this game is frustrating for a billion-dollar video gaming company. While I applaud SE for allowing the Eternal Bonding to take place between two people of the same gender, there is not much else in this game that represents LGBT characters, other than a token gay couple in Upper La Noscea.

Some people will also bring up characters like Alphinaud (weird) or Haurchefant, and say they're "WOL-sexual". But you know that they're not actually designed as gay characters. They just happened to be perceived as LGBT because of the fandom.

Many other RPGs are already fully embracing the need to represent minorities in their game, because minority representation is an important issue that affects the psychological development of minority youth.

I hope to see Square Enix do more to represent LGBT characters in their game, because by doing so they'll let LGBT youth feel like they have a place in Eorzea and feel welcomed.

I know some people will think I'm joking, but I'm not. As a LGBT PoC myself, I am deeply invested in this issue.

I don't get it. You ask for something that, statistically, is not that prevalent yet in Japanese culture (https://www.worldnomads.com/travel-s...ravel-in-japan). Quite frankly, most of the time it's used in modern art, it's just to "check that box" and doesn't add to the development of that art. I also find it odd that the one gay couple you pointed out, you call a "token". It's also odd that you are so "deeply invested in this issue". It's a game, not your lover.

It's the zeitgeist of the time. A political issue divides people into tribes, and these tribes conflict. Also, it is inherently sexual, so no wonder it creeps most people out.

So every character to has a husband/wife is sexual? Is the valentines day just a big pron fest? Over sexualized? Why is straight not sexualized, but anything else is?
