If I wanted to enjoy romantic fiction, I would go to a fanfiction website or read a visual novel. The takes of these good people are not that savage. They are exhausted from having this discussion because most people dont want to hear it or see it. They dont want to, not out of hatred but because they have been scolded with this line of reason time and time again for 7-10 years by some of the most extreme views the LGBT community has to offer. It has only been a few years since, i.e. 20-30yrs since people could be open, and now they are asked to accept some of the most unorthodox sexual lifestyles along with 500 more spaghetti characters leading to the term alphabet community and the majority of people there are going why can't I live my life in peace. I have to pay the energy bill, which has gone up 400%, and they have this queer screaming at them about intersectionality and how they are a terrible person because they are complicit in society. 1/3Thats a... rather vicious view of such people, don't you think? Where the attacks about us apparently not being confident in our sexualities really necessary? You must be very judgey about people who enjoy romantic fiction.
I will say though that there is merit in seeing fictional characters who you can identify with. It does not in anyway need to be in regards to their sexuality or gender expression, in fact in most cases it will not be. Vryn makes a wonderful example of why people rightly love Emet. At the same time if someone does connect with a character because it reflects aspects of their overall person, I do not think that should be dismissed or seen as hollow. Besides, you do not even have to be LGBTQ+ to identify with such topics anyway. The themes of love or discrimination are human.
It is in the game, but in small blink-and-you-miss it parts. How does it damage the game by expanding that a little? Sure, such themes or characters did not need to be in Endwalker (Should have been clear that I was more talking about NPC interactions then core story points) but would it have effected anything negatively if we did say, see a NPC whose same sex partner had been been killed by an Abomination? I really do not agree with you and others that most are demanding that LGBTQ+ characters be put front and centre or that we want it to be the only aspect of said supposed characters.
There is certainly merit in what you say about being the representation, and its interesting how the game has a large number of LGBTQ+ players, but like dustdjinn said the gender unlocking came because people, many of who from said playerbase I would expect, did ask for it. Thats kinda what many of us are doing here.
I would also state that the most prominent critics of the LGBT community are those in the community who agree with the majority of society. Many people within the community are either far more stoic or hedonistic. They accept the LGBT community, but they do no accept the lifestyle that the LGBT community has propagated, such as Drag culture or how the community is known for Alcohol, drugs and unorthodox sexual preferences. No one likes a narcissist, and this attitude of self-indulgence, entitlement and rampant narcissism has to end. It damages our ability to converse with everyone else and makes them less likely to show our representation naturally in the future, which is the problem you have now.If I wanted to enjoy romantic fiction, I would go to a fanfiction website or read a visual novel. If I replaced the words LGBT in my statement with the term skin colour, we would be having a very different conversation. So that should worry you that you can easily make those references between the two communities. 2/3

You proved my point in my statement that it would be only the main characters that you would accept as an accurate representation. If you also state that the themes described are human and shared between humans, then is simply no reason to show them as LGBT but as human and therefore pointless, and you could be inclusive of everyone in the process. The average person doesnt care. If someone says we need super straight representation, they would tell them to stop being a virgin and shut up because they act like a cringe child. 3/3I would also state that the most prominent critics of the LGBT community are those in the community who agree with the majority of society. Here we are again. Someone raises the thread from the depths (amazing how they keep finding it), stirs it up and sets it off to run through the same sequence of arguments again with a new group of people who might not realise it's a cyclical troll thread.
We should be allowed to have these conversations even though it may be uncomfortable or started by a troll it allows us to work through the issues people may have within the community and learn how one another thinks even though we may not like what we hear the truth is always better than a lie. How the forum started has no bearing on what it is now.
I have said numerous times that there is room for both a platonic and romantic interpretation of their relationship (or if you want to use another word, 'headcanon'.) I'm not sure what your point is, or why you want so hard to invalidate a potential LGBT reading of that story.Except they specifically mention that Mitron is Gaia’s knight. Them giving some ff8 fanservice isn’t really telling imagery, especially when there’s numerous other examples of them being specified as friends. From the duty journal specifically saying friends, to Ryne herself stating she’s a friend etc. Again, can headcanon all you want, but as of right now canonically, there’s hardly anything pointing to them being any more than close friends who do what close friends do.
Just look at this platonic heart shaped plate of coffee biscuits!I have said numerous times that there is room for both a platonic and romantic interpretation of their relationship (or if you want to use another word, 'headcanon'.) I agree that people are free to interpret as they please, but I think those in this thread should be mindful that thinking they’re together isn’t as crazy as some would be believe.

There is already sidequests that have it. We are a hero and friends saving the world. It doesn’t matter who people prefer.
I also dont think Ryne and Gaia were romantic at all. They were normal teenage bestfriends.
Seems like a sisterly bond to me. But then again I'm not thinking about the sexuality of teenagers either. That's super weird.I have said numerous times that there is room for both a platonic and romantic interpretation of their relationship (or if you want to use another word, 'headcanon'.) It does seems many folks default to bi/lesbian when they see 2 close females. Bonds can be more than just sexual. A perfect example would be Fang & Vanille from XIII
