Not trying to argue, just never seen the 7-10% figure before and I couldn't find a concrete source on it. Is it just an extension of your statement about populations being afraid to come out, and you adding some percentage onto the confirmed population? Or was there a more recent study I didn't stumble across you can show?
It comes from the first scientific study, which was done by Alfred Kinsey in the late 1940s. His study was fairly direct, and he was able to get closeted gay men to admit they were gay for the study. To date, it's the only one that got closeted men to admit a thing. There are some issues with his study, as it was done on a college campus, and so he didn't have a large sample size, nor a multi-ethnic one.
