Frustrating relative lack of LGBT NPCs in this game

I'm not even sure why this thread went so off the rails in the first place. It never needed to be anything more than people agreeing or disagreeing with the idea of more 'representation'.

It's simply not uppermost in the mind of the majority of the world's population to think constantly, all the time, about complicated issues that ultimately only affect a very tiny portion of the overall population.

I daresay attempting to force, threaten or scare people into going along for the ride is going to have the opposite effect. Which in itself annoys me since that's exactly the sort of thing that causes the pendulum to swing too far in the opposite direction.

I don’t understand why we need to represent such things in the first place. Even with lgbtq couples in game, it still won’t represent YOU or is your personality lacking so much that your sexuality is the most pronounced trait you have?
Before someone jumps, I wouldn’t mind it, but at the same time I couldnt give the tiniest about the sexual life of an npc.

Agreed, the fact that trans people deserve to be treated with dignity and respect is more important than your feeling that they do not.

I think they just need to be treated the same as anyone else. Just because they are trans doesn't mean they deserve respect, they could be one of the most horrible people in existence.

I am with you. I understand what people are asking for, which is every now and then instead of helping the man save his wife, you are helping the man save his husband or vice versa. In the grand scheme of the game I personally would not care or probably even notice. I don't think it really hurts anything putting things like that in there. I wouldn't mind a NPC that constantly reminded you they were gay either cause that would just be funny to me personally.

There is some instances i.e the blundering treasure hunter and steadfast companion (i think wanderers palace hard questline?) "We...we had grown rather fond of the tonberries while living amongst them. They have good hearts, no matter how odd their appearance. None of that should matter anyway. This fellow is Hyuran and I am Miqo'te; are we lesser a couple for our difference? I should think not!" Ryne and Gaia? came across that way. hairdresser npc? I'm sure i've seen a few others too but they just dont come out and say im gay. But at the same time not many of the npcs say im straight or indicate any sexuality.

Shitty as it is they do still have to be subtle because regardless of what they think or the community some governments/countries wont stand for it. It's moving a long at a fast pace in some places but others are still so far behind.

I cane back hoping to see if this conversation had taken a more respectful angle and I see it hasn’t.

I’m not going to try to change anyone’s mind here because it’s clear that people are stuck in their ways and in their mindset. But there are certain things I do want to say (and screw me, but I’m unable to let my two cents go unheard. Yeowch.)

I don’t want to get into regressive conversational language (“trans women are women because they say they are women, trans men are men because they say they are men”) because while I believe this phrase in almost it’s entirety (like 99.999%, with the exceptions to this rule being people like Chris-chan who have openly stated that he transitioned specifically because he thought it would make having intercourse with ciswomen easier.) I say a LOT of this having come from similar lines of thought as many people posting in these forums - I didn’t “hate” transpeople, I just thought of them as “trans”people with a lot of caveats. So like, I understand where a lot of the conversation comes from. I was *this* close to becoming a full on TERF in 2018.

The thing with that is, logically, you CAN’T know someone is a woman or a man just by looking at them. Katie Ledecky is cisgender, and yet people consistently look at her and think she’s trans. Laverne Cox is a transwoman, would you look at her and feel comfortable with telling her to go to the mens bathroom, just because at one point she had male genetalia? Or is the cut off less so “had it in the past” and moreso “now has one”, because I’m sure a lot of men would be uncomfortable if Hunter Schafer walked into the mens bathroom.

So the question is, people who are so avidly out here being either anti-trans or trans critical, where is the line you draw? What, to you, defines woman and man?
