We need another meteor. You may very well see it realised within FFXIV itself - there's this comment from the new localisation lead who slipped into Koji Fox's role after he moved to go and work on FFXVI:

So I suppose we shall have to wait and see what this 'surprise tool' entails, eh?

Usually people only necro threads during content droughts.

I'd rather no character get sexualized in any way, personally.

.... have you SEEN the way people dress themselves in this game?
Knowing someone likes their same sex isn't sexualizing them, especially not when I can get into a dungeon and my tank is some cat girl in a bikini top and 2B panties. I think you're conflating sexuality with sexualization.

Player character isn't the same as story character. The OP wants this for characters like the Scions or someone else from the story. And even then, forcing a story character's personality to be "hey I'm gay" doesn't make them interesting. It almost always just comes off as cringe and forced for the sake of pandering..... have you SEEN the way people dress themselves in this game?

Sexualization and sexuality aren’t the same thing; there’s nothing inherently sexual about two characters of the same gender expressing romantic interest in each other.
Non-sexual attraction already exists in this game too; as just a few narrative examples with non-player characters, there’s chemistry between Curious Gorge and Dorongo in some Warrior quests, confirmed romantic interests from Runar toward Y’sthola, Zhai'a Nelhah toward Lalai in some Black Mage quests, and arguably from G’raha Tia toward the player regardless of their gender; none of those attractions are shown to be sexual, regardless of whether that may also exist behind the scenes.

Funny how people in this thread were like "lol it's more accepted being gay in Japan" like...if you're famous maybe. Average everyday people, not so much. And the attitude that just says "I don't care what you are just don't show it in front of me." reinforces that even in the west there are still people who think the same. But tell me how many of those people see a seemingly straight couple together and don't bat an eye but the second they either see a non straight couple or realize said straight couple was not so they suddenly care?

Being this thread has already been necro'd I wish to say my two cents. The majority honestly would not care, and it is usually a double standard. There are many who are perfectly fine with women making out, but if men were to kiss each other on the cheek in public it would be a crime to them. Even holding hands people find way to cause trouble. This is still an issue in many places, but it isn't so big an issue as it is always made out to be in that weird off shoot community of extremists. When I was looking up current japanese goings on with their lgbt community they recently passed a law if I am not mistaken to protect people who were being assaulted for going out together. Though I need to give credit where credit is due, they have never censored to my knowledge outlets for people who wish to absorb media or hobbies involving same sex relationships. Also something I always find interesting, it is really hard finding many things addressing multiple partner relationships though uncommon as they may be. This always surprised me due to history.Funny how people in this thread were like "lol it's more accepted being gay in Japan" like...if you're famous maybe. Average everyday people, not so much. I don't mean to be mean but in some countries that is not the great USA this may make the game banned... please don't do this.

For me, it's enough that every character is basically ambiguous enough that you could reasonably assume they're into anyone if you just write enough fanfiction.
