Greetings!
As Yoshida pointed out some time ago, he wants FF14 to become a "theme park," with content suited for every type of player. But as I see more & more content come out, this "FF14 Theme Park" seems to just be recycling the same boring "rides" and calling them "new".
As many of you may know, theme parks need to build new & exciting attractions in order to keep customers coming back. This is a concept FF14 seems to be reluctant in implementing. If I were to take a survey of FF14's current "rides', the only thing I would find would be the "Lazy River" (ala tank & spank everything). People don't want to come to a theme park with only ONE type of attraction!
Granted the Lazy River is a good ride to occasionally go on, but when it's a choice between that & the House of Smoke & Mirrors (.01% drop rate on Darklight gear & other things), I find myself not wanting to go to this "theme park" at all.
Time Attack shouldn't be implemented in dungeons at all. Remove the timer and add locked passageways to the dungeon. Then make the sub boss (or some other mob) drop a key that can unlock said passageways. If your looking for a penalty to replace the Time Attack, just make the dungeon kick the party out if it has a full party wipe.
If you wish to go on this optional route you can, but the mobs on this route are all on steroids and can two-shot a tank, much akin to mobs in errr.. "Light Souls." People going down this route will need immense skill along with luck. If they happen to be lucky andmake to the end of the route, they face a beefed up version of the boss that also takes skill and luck to beat, not just tank & spank. The rewards for beating this optional route are increased drop rates on the gear in the dungeon (Or completely new items).
The dungeon can also be completed going the normal route, giving both skilled and new players a good challenge depending on the route you take. You wouldn't be hindered by a stupid timer pushing you along, so if you wanted to go with a less than optimal setup that doesn't quite max DPS, you could. It could also prevent the class stacking that seems to plague this game if people want to get SR5C.
People shouldn't be led along with a carrot on the end of a stick SE (Darklight with .0001% drop rate that takes 10000000 runs to get full set that in 2-3 months will be outdated anyway). In order for a theme park to be a success it has to be innovative & have attractions people actually want to go to. Take a page from this & quit making everything in this game tank & spank/class stacking/timed & coupled with a 0.000001% drop rate because it's full of cream puff mobs.
Be innovative SE!
