FFXIV (Steam client) keeps crashing back to desktop. It appears to be specific to some locations in the game. Any attempt to log back results in the same crash, ruling out GPU temps. I am not sure if that is related to the (many) crash complaints in the forum and on reddit and SE may or may not already be looking into it. Overlays are disabled, and this is a fresh (up to date) Windows 10 install. The only way out is to use another computer that has an NVIDIA card, go to another location, and come back to the game until it comes to another unstable area. Error numbers seem to be consistent between crashes (detailed below).

Good afternoon and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

Have any changes happened to the device before the issue began? We would also like to recommend several other troubleshooting steps:

1) Make sure that your hardware is not overheating and remove any overclocks you may have on your graphics card or processor. Please check that any fans or vents are clear of blocks.
2) Disable any additional programs that could cause interference with the game itself including chat programs. Also, remove any custom configurations made using graphics driver-level programs
3) Remove any mods or injectors from the game or system
4) Turn off Fullscreen Optimizations. Find the executable file for the game (normally found in the install folder), right-click it and select 'Properties'. Under the 'Compatibility' tab, check the box labeled 'Disable Fullscreen Optimizations', then click 'Apply'.
5) Remove any unnecessary USB or audio devices (controllers, headphones, flash drives etc.)
6) Update and reinstall the drivers for your graphics card
7) Perform a clean boot by opening the task manager and select the 'Start up' Tab. Disable everything
8) Install Steam, Windows and FINAL FANTASY XIV onto the same drive

I appreciate this is a canned reply but my post ruled out most of the troubleshooting steps.

Interestingly, based on very limited testing, I do not seem to be getting the CTD when FFXIV is on the C drive (step 8). I tried installing it back on the other drive, resulting in the crashes coming back. How do I make it work on the proper drive? Is that something Square Enix is aware of and actively working on?

Unfortunately, our game defaults to the C:/ drive and we do not recommend using any other drives for FINAL FANTASY XIV as doing so can cause issues.
