Good targeting setup for controller healers?

    Hello,

I am sure there is a very simple option and I am just too tired to find something that works for all situations but...

For healers using a controller, what is your setup for targeting mobs easily (e.g. in the new dungeon, there are a lot of friendlies that I don't want to target when I try to dot) but yet still be able to easily raise people outside of a party (e.g. Nier Raid) and interact with items when needed.

    Thanks,
    F

I play on controller but i keep the mouse nearby for click on healers outside the party that have fallen in battle.

I would check out the targeting options under character settings. YOu can set up what you want to target and what targets to ignore (such as non aggro monsters for example) and such and switch between several targeting options based on your needs.

L1 + Up/Down on the dpad cycles through your party List, and L1 + right/left on the dpad cycles through the alliance list. I don't play on controller so I'm just parroting what my controller friend said. If you're unable to find a good targetting system that works well, you'll want to master these shortcuts.

Don't need to hold L1 to cycle through own party, just Up/Down.

    Other than that..

For switching enemies, I tend to use R2/L2 + R1/L1. Otherwise, I just hit X to select whatever is closest to in front of me.

If you need to heal an NPC, then just pushing Left/Right on D-Pad with the camera so that it's one of the only things in the screen works.

For targeting allies in another alliance, I used L1 + Left/Right

I macro all dps or enemy targeted spells with a 'target of target' function.
    Basically:
    /ac 'spell' <t>
    /ac 'spell' <tt>

Then I always focus target the boss or prominent enemy, which can also be done by adding it to one of the spell macros.
    /focus <tt>

This way, I only ever have to target party members, mainly hard target the tank or main tank, then tab up/down for other party members.
With the option to directly engage enemies still there.

It's not strictly ideal for optimising dps, but for anything outside of savage prog and Ultimate, it's perfect.

EDIT: it appears seraphor beat me to the punch by ~4 minutes, but i'll keep the post up anyway

personally i've mapped R3 to target-of-target, so that i can keep my party selected (via up/down on the D-pad) and quickly swap to an enemy to use my critbuff and such

you can also use macros for offensive skills that look like:
    /merror
    /ac "ruin" <t>
    /ac "ruin" <tt>
    /micon "ruin"

basically uses ruin on whatever you've got targeted, if that isn't a valid target (such as an ally) then it attempts to use ruin on whatever your target has targeted: basically allowing you to just look at your tank or party members to keep healing them, while able to fire off dps spells without wasting time changing targets (which on controller can be an absolute nightmare).
merror is there to stop the red "<tt> is not a proper target" text that pops up if you're playing solo or your target doesn't have anyone targeted themselves.

and before anyone goes poo poo macros bad, do remember that healers entire job is completely braindead, so the input limitations on macros affect healers exactly 0%

I use R2/L2 + R1/L1 to target and switch between enemies, or scroll through the enemy list if I quickly need to target one specific enemy. I also have set it so that left and right on the d-pad does NOT target any enemies or party members, so I can target other players with it. And I have assist target (it means targeting the target of your target) on R3, so I can quickly switch between the boss and the main tank.
