It took me a while to find it again after i had to install the game on a different system and forgot to make a backup of my settings... You can find it under the Character Configuration > Logs (bottom category) > General.

It is absolutely amazing that people will "defend" something so utterly pointless as this.
Like you really really need to know that you changed to "SCH *500" Its so important that after you opened the menu, or clicked your job macro, and saw the swirl around your character and the gear you're wearing change, that it also states that you changed jobs.
Amazing.
You used the word "often"The information that you are given this way is often not pointless or redundant. But I agree there should be an option to remove it from the centre of your screen and put it somewhere else less distracting like a chat log, or even be able to reposition it elsewhere and make the size of the message smaller.
Those messages that bother you do not bother me, but I'm not against introducing more ways to tweak ui. I always welcome more ui options.
The information you are given on any normal gameplay day is in fact pointless and or redundant. Each time you teleport or change zones it tells you were you are. (Pointless and redundant for anyone who teleports using the teleport menu and clicks the location they want to go to.) ... in which it is absolutely impossible to teleport without using the teleport menu, and when you click the location, it asks you to confirm your location you are teleporting to.....
When you queue for something it says "Duty Registration Complete" That is absolutely redunant.
When you walk back and forth from the Aetheryte to the marketboard area in Limsa, it says "The Octant" and "Aetheryte Plaza" this is both redundant and pointless.
When you click save after making changes to the UI it says "Changes saved" .. thats pointless.
Please give me an example when its not pointless and or redundant, in so much that it needs to be directly in the middle of the screen.
Because 99% of the information it says, especially outside of battle is 100% useless and or redundant.
Except "someone tells you that you're breathing" is exactly what the complaint is. The game constantly "tells you you're breathing." That would be the exact same scenario to a real life situation. Its literally like someone right next to you telling you. "You're breathing. ... you scratched your head. .... you turned your head. You lowered your eyes. You're thinking of getting some food. You got out of your chair, you moved to the kitchen."I never said I was against an option to turn it off, I understand some people would like to turn this off and not receive the redundant information.
Also, I tune it out by just ignoring it. Most of the time I don't even realize I'm being fed this mundane stuff. It's like breathing, you don't realize you're doing it until some tells you that you're breathing.
Thats literally exactly what the game is doing. Its telling you where you are and what you're doing more than 50% of the time you're doing it.

I used to post sensibly, but so long as the game has spammy pointless nonsense like this, and the forums are full of people saying "no /10char" and insults, I'll rub against the grain too.TCs posts are almost as annoying as he claims the thing he's complaining about is.
Frankly... I don't notice these things all that much, and never registered them as an issue.
Theyre just hud notifications, many games have them in various degrees.
I'm not against an option to deactivate them, but they don't seem like a pressing issue to me.
My posts are simple requests, or pointing out facts people neglect or offering up sensible solutions. I just add in a bit of spice to what I otherwise would say differently.
I'm more aware that saying something simple and cleanly, the request is either completely ignored or is misread. So why do things proper?
Very convenient of you to completely ignore my request to state what is useful.I used the word "often" because the truth is what may be redundant information to you is useful information for another person. A lot of what you claim is redundant are things that I find useful to have notifications for. But I'm not so arrogant as to claim that my personal taste and needs as a player are indicative of the value of all information in the game for everyone else.
I agree we should have the option to alter how this information is presented to us, but I strongly disagree with your attitude that it's shocking that someone else may not feel the same as you do about certain information and how it should be displayed.
Its "useful" to be told you Equipped "SCH *500" after you.. opened the menu, clicked the job, clicked equip, saw the swirl of job change animation, and saw your gear appearance change?
Its "useful" to be told you're in the Aetheryet Plaza, when there is a giant oversized crystal right in your face?
Its "useful" to be told you teleported to Ul'dah, after you opened the menu, selected teleport, selected Ul'dah, and selected "yes" to confirm you want to teleport to Ul'dah? (The redundancy here literally just made me laugh.)
Its "useful" information to be told "Duty Registration complete" after you opened the menu, selected a duty, selected commence, and heard the duty registration commence sound notification?
I could literally go on for days. Yet you and the people who claim its useful, have failed utterly at giving a single example of when its useful.
When your retainers have returned? Tell me why thats useful while you're doing quests that it needs to be said right in the middle of your screen right in the middle of a cutscene? (I gave you an example for you, out of the kindness of my heart.)

It could also help with accessibility stuff. Sometimes people have poor vision or something else, and it may make it easier for them. Unless you don't care about people like that? See, I can play that game too.It is absolutely amazing that people will "defend" something so utterly pointless as this.

Same way it's amazing you're complaining of something almost insignificant, as if it's a game breaking issue. It is absolutely amazing that people will "defend" something so utterly pointless as this.

But that's already par for the course with you.
Oh, but you completely misunderstand me. First of if you're implying that this feature is good. I never said it shouldnt exist. I said the option to turn it off should.
I dont enjoy the way posts are made. I would prefer people get to the point and not over post. But to get heard in all the noise, you have to be louder.
I do care about a lot of features, and see how certain things can help. But for a mass majority of people this information being displayed is being ignored, so clearly for the vast majority, it can and should be possible to be turned off. You shouldnt have to ignore it, if its useless, you should be able to turn it off, move it, or direct it to the chat log. There literally is no reason for this option to exist. Especially when they claim their UI is customizable, when that statement is furthest from the truth. You're probably not even aware that there is about a 100 UI element limit to how many elements you can move. This is another ridiculous aspect of the UI. Its saved player side so if you're on PC you should be allowed to move and save as many elements as you so choose. They already have an option to set the limit to how many menu's you have open, why not allow us the more important option of saving its position?
Also its pointless for them to put each UI element in a different spot, and even more so to slap them in the middle of the screen. (these are things like Wondrous Tails UI element, the Character menu, the Blue mage spell log, and every other similar element.)
I could easily rip this game to shreds.
Its not even in the top Final Fantasy games for me. Its just the cheapest and has the most content. With how empty Shadowbringers has been so far, I've already went back to FFXI. That game surprisingly has a very active playerbase. The open world areas on a smaller server seem just as active as this game. (let alone mentioning a larger server like Asura.) Sure it has only 1 data centers worth of servers, such as "Aether" or "Crystal" not "North America" but its also over 18 years old. Says something about that game and this one. Especially considering the Housing is locked to the subscription (which Yoshida himsaid said would never happen.)
But this is something that has annoyed my since, I remembered to post about it in 2014. (I posted about more important issues first, and dont always remember or care to post about something in the game. But I did post this in 2014, and nothing has been done in 7 years. Which is absolutely ridiculous considering how pointless this feature is.)
Excuse me for wanting a better game and saying things in a way so it gains some traction. If everyone else did things the right way, I wouldnt have to play by their rules.

The crazy got dialed up a notch today I see.
Low effort trolling =/= "ripping the game to shreds"I could easily rip this game to shreds.

Funny how you always complain about nitpicky things no one cares about, instead of any actual great issues.
