I heal for the same reason I tank.

Because during those time I tank I get that healer who spams Cure 1 / Physic and nothing else.
And when I tank I get that tank who single pulls and uses zero defensive CD's.

Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]
Same feels man... same feels...
I keep with healers because in my little group I'm usually go-to healer. I don't mind it. Especially because I tend to be a little bit of a deadpan snarker and general troll to my raid pals on voice. It has led to such comical banter that we've wiped stuff due to laughing too hard.
When I go on duty roulette or even select a specific duty, I get a group INSTANTLY, even when it shows tank as 'Adventurer in Need'...
Honestly, I didn't go back to playing healer for the fast queue... I do it because I feel like devs have alienated a huge chunk of the AST heal job, and a smaller chunk of SCH players .. and if the game is to continue thriving, it needs healers for groups. And I'm hopeful that eventually Squeenix will bring some lost satisfaction to the heal jobs it messed up with 5.x
I like the SCH aesthetic and job fantasy, and feeling needed and feeling useful activates my dopamines.
I hope we get more engaging gameplay though. Been a healer main since launch and the Broil spam is seriously getting me burned out.

I continue to heal because I can’t trust anyone else to do it right.

I prefer jobs that have low artificial complexity requirements. I usually like to play melee jobs in a lot of games, rather than ranged options, but all melees have a ton of artificial complexity, so I avoid them. Stuff like needing to bind each part of your combo to a different button as opposed to the system in PvP where one button does your full combo, or positionals. Any healer complexity generally feels meaningful and natural, though my least favorite part of the new AST card system is the depth-less complexity they added in there.
It's also because I have pushed myself to master healing over my journey from ARR to today, and it's morally difficult to be the "good men who do nothing while innocents suffer" with regards to getting matched with cure-1-only healers. I could have prevented that tank from dying to small pull autos... if only I wasn't "selfish" and wanted to play deeps instead...

Because there is an an immense amount of satisfaction being the backbone of the entire party and being able to drag a bad party through the depths of hell, kicking and screaming to a clear - something a healer is exceptionally good at doing.

Basically, when I tank or DPS every now and then, I just see so many mistakes or times where a healer could have done better and it's just painful to watch bad/lazy ones try to pure heal.
While the role is very much in need of a sit down conversation with SE's devs, I stick around because...
1. It's a role I'm used to, I usually play backline or support in any other game. Say Overwatch, I usually gravitate toward the healer role. Idk, it's just something that I've come back to no matter how bad it becomes. Until they literally remove everything good about healers (which is it seems to be on its way), I will continue to do so.
2. I still enjoy what they are. Even if they're boring, I can still find some enjoyment in them. This is why it's important to not just one trick a singular role. I get that itch to come back.
3. I have a sliver of hope that SE will get it right...even though it's not looking too great.

Yup. Occasionally I'll get the itch to play on DPS in a roulette and I'm very often reminded why I main heals. Especially in alliance raids.
Plus me being on healer is a guaranteed -1 passive-aggressive/cringe Raise macro. So there's that too.

I really like the 'prettiness' of the class, hahaha.
I also love seeing my actions restores HP of everybody else, I don't know, there is something very satisfying seeing me restoring the HP of my party members.
Also, I am probably in the minority in here perhaps (?), but I don't find healers to be boring. Well, that's about it.
Note: I change class all the time so I don't have a 'main' really, but out of all job archetypes (Tanks, DPS, Healers) I like healer the most, and I generally prefer to do content as healers.
