Whether it is well spent or not is entirely relative to the individual. Ultimately it is none your business in regards to how people choose to spend their money.Well. Since we're here at this point.
People can do whatever they want with their money. Sure.
Still doesnt mean its wisely spent. Funny how some of you try to justify their purchases, even though its just some pixels in a game. Haha, poor indie studio SE must be having a rough time. Please support them qq /s
If the $35 would be used for FF14 development, I'd be okay but it isn't used that way. Most of their revenue is moved to other projects.

Yes, I'm sure the physical server expansion they're currently working on is coming straight out of the devs own pockets.
Why is it that people arguing this point always seem to forget the times where actual things were introduced or expanded to the game. Like whole new datacenters.

And it took forever for that to happen. We haven't seen anything truly significant like that happen for a long, long time. The money the cash shop brings in, while helpful, just isn't enough for what the game needs. And I sincerely doubt that ALL of it goes back into the game itself.Yes, I'm sure the physical server expansion they're currently working on is coming straight out of the devs own pockets.

A gold mine thats trying to fill a budget void that is too big for it too fill. The cash shop is what helped get the money for the data center move without it that never would have happened. Thats how badly SE is hamstringing the game budget wise.

It's for SE to up the budget then, not continually tap its subscribed player base under the guise of a fundraiser that is the cash shop. It's having its cake and eating it.
If FFXIV isn't a workable business model they should be upfront about it - either raise the sub price or be honest that they need people to buy stuff or the game will fold.
Do you know why the don't do this? Because it isn't true.

I've played other MMOs- a four person mount for only that much is basically the best price on the market.
You people would never handle ESO, where the RNG elements behind the fanciest mounts mean they'll cost on average $100s of dollars to obtain.

This was my biggest turnoff to ESO. I haven't played that in at least a year. Just about all of the good looking cosmetics and mounts were locked behind loot boxes. Fun game, but very poor cash shop practices in my opinion. The FF XIV cash shop is saintly by comparison. I would also argue that most of the good stuff can be obtained in game in FF XIV. I may take advantage of a sale every now and then to get a few things or buy a mount I really like, but I largely just use the shop to buy dyes otherwise. And I'm perfectly content that way.
