BLU - Surpanahka has not been learned after 40+ runs

Ive been doing a mix of Thok ast Thok (Hard) and (Extreme). About 30/10. I make sure I damage the boss, I make sure to stand right by him throughout the fight, especially during Surpanahka casts. Ravana is allowed to cast it 2-3 times before we kill him.

I have had a few spells that took 4-5 runs or mobs to learn it. I have never seen this. I do everything Im supposed to to be able to learn the spell. This is kinda ridiculous to be honest. Any ideas? What exactly did you guys do to learn it?

Make a party of 8 blue mages, run the instance synced.

You'll have a 100% learn rate for every spell that can be learned in any trial or dungeon by doing that.

They changed the rate of acquisition. So long as you are synced to the content and see the spell you'll get it 100%. So don't unsync things as then its up to RNGesus, and I hear he hates us all.

Thok is an easy fight, so i went with a synced group. 100% learn rate, whether the group is all BLU or just you and a bunch of normal classes.

Did they change this? I had last understood it had to be an all blue-mage group to get a 100% learn rate. Would be really handy for friends who aren't interested in playing blue mages to still contribute to their friends learning if they can be on other jobs.

Only those interested in the spell need to be on BLU. Anyone else can be whatever they like. Although, a majority of people on BLU does help the run go faster. Usually people split it 50/50. But yes as long as the content is synced the party makeup can be whatever.

To add to this, you only need an all BLU party in order to get completion in the BLU log or for specific raid/trial achievements.

This was the first google result for Surpanakha, so if you've found your way here like me, know that the learn rate is still abysmally low. However, instead of wasting all your time in PF to form a sync party or farming Hard hoping to get lucky, skip all of that and do this on Extreme. Learned it on the first try, and wasn't particularly hard, but I was level 80 with full i530. Took less than 10 minutes

You can burn him down to 80% quick at the start, but then take it slow and go through all Ravana's mechanics and ease him down to 20-30%. The main thing is to make sure the limit cut or whatever mechanic fully resolves (sword above head mechanic), then you start finishing him a few seconds after it's fully ended, to be sure. There is likely some particular way that BLU spell drops were programmed, and skipping certain mechanics can effectively invalidate a run (unintentional side effect as there was probably no other way to program the spell learn system other than the way they did it). I got it from the (Hard) version on an alt this way- The (extreme) version appears to have a higher success rate solo but I say it's on account of it taking longer with less mechanics being skipped less often.

Edit: Found a screenshot of me getting the spell from Hard solo, and I had stretched the run out to a bit over 11 minutes to get it.
