Didn't Yoshi-P prove himself enough? Whatever he did so far and what is planned in those 2.0 documents, if you took the time to read them that is, is already a good indication that his vision is way better then what Tanaka had in mind.

Yoshi-p is a gamer, he played a lot of MMOs, he said it himself. This puts him in a better position then Tanaka who had only heard and seen a bit of WOW which is let's face it the most popular MMO of all time up until now. How can you design a great MMO when you are going blind not knowing what is out there and only basing youself on a 10 yr old game. Things changes, mmo chages, gaming itself changed and Tanaka couldn't adapt.

you need to give up on FFXI discussions, i dont know what people think that will happen if they keep doing the same theme threads... is boring we already had this discussion 1000 times, nobody wants FFXI exact copy, just the good things from that game in the way FFXIV is, so please stop this threads the results are the same every time (and dev team already knows a lot of ideas posted)

A good thread would be a discussion were everyone says what they would like in the game without all the oppinions just what you want, maybe a dev will say that a few things sounds good and maybe implement it in their own way, if you want creativity from the dev team be creative...

Fact is apart from the shiny graphics FXIV is nowhere near as good as FFXI was in its heyday. Until it is people will continue to ask "put xyz from FFXI into FFXIV". The argument that one should "go and play FFXI" is completely invalid, FFXI is shite now and has been for several years, and as far as I am aware the time machine has not yet been invented.
FFXIV is going to get more like FFXI like it or not simply because thats where the primary target market for FFXIV is, namley current and former FFXI players. Just be thankful SE aren't targeting WoW players in this way.
Oh and whilst I'm here, SE fix the laughably restricted character creation please, its not FFXI! (see what I did there?) Oh nvm...

Big part of the situation. Although, I think FF has a tendency to repel other MMO players to a degree, as well. Our playerbase is known for being fickle and elitist. Whether or not this is true is up for debate.

Mainstream style is garenteed to fail and XI is garenteed to only keep a small playerbase(aka fail).

They need to find the right mixture to keep the hardcores, XI diehards, and casual mainstream ppl happy or the game will just fall apart. They have work to do... considering no mmo has ever accomplished this.

This is a Final Fantasy Title.

So what if it borrows idea from another Final Fantasy title. It is, after all, a franchise. And why is it limited solely to XI, what if this game takes an idea from Final Fantasy 8?
