Why does everyone want Chemist as a new job?

Why does everyone want Chemist as a new job? First of all, it's too similar to the DOH Alchemist with the whole potion-crafting theme. Second, what acronym would you even give it? Thirdly, wouldn't it just be another ping-based job like ninja if they do the mix function? Fourth, what role would the chemist even be?

Though I am not a proponent to Chemist, I can say the following: the chemist job is targeted to be a healer. The acronym would be easy to come up with, that shouldn't be an issue. The job is gaining popularity as it would be unique in that it is not a magic-based healer.

I want it because it would be fun, throwing potions at people sounds fun.

I don't think it would be similar to Alc, since you won't be sitting around crafting. There's nothing bad about using a theme that already exist and give it a different purpose.

Acronym (if the class is really named chemist) : CHM

I never really understood the ping thing so idk

    The role? hopefully a healer

    • FFX-2's Chemist job was legitimately broken and made the game so much more fun simply by existing.
    • It's been two expansions without a new healer and Chemist is one of two classes that community can look towards to fill that role.
    • The other class, Geomancer is in lore very close to Astrology so while there's a ton of interest in that class as well people have reservations about whether or not it'll be added given the lore overlap.
    • Both classes however currently have lore backing. With Chemist's being very heavily hinted towards in Patch 5.3.
    • Some of us are sick of having magic based healers and want something that breaks from that tradition.
    • In line with above, there's hope a non-magic based healer might finally break the 'robe' meta and let us have interesting gear for once.
    • They don't need to call it Chemist, they can call it Apothecary or Chirurgeon and call it a day. (Both jobs, not combat job but literally profession that a person can do for a living, exist in the game already.) In which case they could be APO/APT or CHI/CHR.

As for me, I just want to throw glass bottles at people. Is that so wrong?

Not just throwing potions, we could shoot needles and throw bandages like ribbons, I think that would be fun. I would also like the spell Leeches back in the game, and I think it would also go well with the class.

In every FF game Chemist has shown up in, it has been a very fun and interesting healing/support class. Mixing items to create various effects, anywhere from powerful healing effects like full party revives, powerful support effects like increasing the character's level by a whopping 20 for the battle, or powerful offensive attacks like Shadow Flare. FFT's Chemist allowed them to also wield a gun and shoot from far off, giving it a nice long range offensive ability compared to its original appearance in FFV. FFX-2 added an interesting layer in the form of the Stash abilities, where the (Al)Chemist would pull out a hidden item for use that was not counted as being from your inventory.

From those, we can already see a few ways that Chemist can work in FFXIV as a healer. Wielding a special gun that could shoot alchemical effects, giving it a long range weapon for using its skills. Mix would allow it a Mudra-ish system allowing for multiple interesting buffs and heals to be created depending on the mixture. Stash would easily allow for oGCD heals, with you throwing out hidden potions you had kept on you (in places not even the player knew about) to heal your allies or damage your opponent.

Also originally the dev team had planned on adding Chemist for HW but couldn't figure out how to set up the mixing system right. Chemist was tossed out for that reason, and the system was used for Astrologian instead. Judging from how they've figured out how to use the system better since then (see Mudra changes and Dances), Chemist could be back on the table.
