I'll be honest, I see less toxicity in game then people complain about online (only the occasional elitist or troll) and I see MORE toxicity on places like Reddit.

Facts. Reddit has become an awful cesspit lately to the point I've just come off it. They break every rule, have a name and shaming sub that completely breaks TOS (TalesfromDF) and their mods just sit on their hands and let it all happen.
It has absolutely gotten worse since FFXIV became more popular and another MMO that shall not be named has gone into heavy decline.
Ingame? Toxicity is rare, the few that do it are easily just blacklisted and never delt with again.
You're on drugs, and I know how u got em to.
You met the Pain Pill Princess while attempting to go idle in Idyleshire and next thing you know you've been taken through the Methamorphasis.
Here's a donation of 3 gil towards your recovery, GL my friend, I love u plz beat this.
Yeah youtube, REDDIT and the forums are WAY more toxic then anything in the game from my experience. Though I do see it ingame from time to time. I was in a group a bit ago where we were all vets but the tank. I knew they were new because leaf, level of classes leveled... one.. and cutscenes played. I was the only one who waited for them.. the TANK. The other memebers rushed, the poor tank tried as best they could to keep up. But cutsecnes got in the way. This was the one dungeon in the MSQ where it has that one cutscene at the end before the boss. The other two bitched about the tank watching said scene. That got on my nerves. I hate when people do that to new players. but it's rare ingame.
This so much, I never wanted to attempt raiding because of these forums and reddit, well not just because of that, I hate being a burden... I had to do it for Shadowbringers, warned new groups I'm late to the party, get anxious and forgive me for any mistakes. They were awesome, patient and kind, out of all three raids, one person was complaining about new players going into raids. They got told to shut up lol.
Problem with reddit is that you CANNOT have different opinion and discussion there. It's either agree with them or be quiet. Perfect example of an echo chamber.
I've always said the in-game community is way better than the forums or social media. These forums, like all MMO forums, suck. And Reddit is 99% fan art and cosplay. If you actually want to discuss the game you get downvoted and it never makes it out of /new.
Also, I find it hilarious that posts 5 and 6 in this thread completely proved the OP's point about toxicity. It's almost like they entirely missed the point about the tank being brand new.
Yeah, people suck. It's on full display right there.

Even as someone who was originally on NA servers for years before moving to EU servers I’ve honestly seen people being ‘elitist’ / ‘troll’ like three times between the two since I started in 1.0.
The vast majority of players I’ve met were just, normal people lol? I also find that most people prefer for someone else to set the mood of the run. If someone in goes chatty then the party will probably be more likely to talk to each other throughout the dungeon. Likewise if everyone is quiet then the party is usually going to just get on with whatever they’re doing (personally I don’t think a ‘silent party’ is such a bad thing)
It seems like every thread now is about how ‘terrible casuals’ are just doing anything they please with no regards to other party members, and ‘hardcore elitists’ are abusing others for being a percentile off the optimal dps number. I’ve yet to meet either of the two, personally, and I’m someone who used to do consecutive expert roulettes without the bonus, at capped tones, just for fun (the thought makes me shudder a little now lol)
The only ‘savage’ content I’ve ever really done was Binding Coil and a few extremes, and the very few times I done them in random / pf groups I didn’t really see ‘toxic’ or even ‘aggressive’ players

I've had that a few times, but usually it's our one person left to grumble while the other two party members say it's okay and wait. I think Stone Vigil is the one with the long one right before the final boss? I've had the most complaints from impatient people there when running with a newbie.Yeah youtube, REDDIT and the forums are WAY more toxic then anything in the game from my experience. OH It wasn't stone. It was way before that. Like it's before manor. So very early on.I've had that a few times, but usually it's our one person left to grumble while the other two party members say it's okay and wait.
