There are a lot of people who really enjoy a good grinding, but outside of crafter and gatherer content (something not everyone enjoys), you're not likely to find it right now.
I do think on trying it out. But I'm not the same grinder I once used to be.
I'm mostly doing the Yo-Kai right now because I got little to do in general so I just put on some music and try not to think about what I am doing but just grind it out to keep me busy. -haha-
But yeah, the Bozja Battlefield sounds interesting. I never delved into Eureka, just unlocked it but never did anything with it. Mostly because it was around the start of my break from FFXIV.

I know, right. -haha- Why my first post was short and simple.

5.3 was ok. Started getting good after we left the first.

I've been playing since ARR and still like the game. There were times when I wasn't very active, only played a little here and then. But it's still fun to me. I like the world, the characters abd many features of FFXIV.

But of course it's not for everyone. You can't say the game is bad only because it's not really to your tastes though. Maybe I or anyone else wouldn't like some other game that you like very much.

Yeah, I am just waiting for my sub to run out. Dead overworld... nothing happens except in instances or cities... most of the events are just recycled content... gear progression is dumb and mostly meaningless... the only RP you ever see is tavern/bar style. It's just a dull game.

Very true and more people should be able to see it like this as well.
To each their own. And none is more right or wrong than the other.

Every time the initial patch's glow fades away this is what happens, a sudden wave of people unsubscribing. The game just doesn't have lasting power; this game presents itself to be casual haven yet they hold back the casual content (relics) back in favor of "raiding" content such as shiva unreal/the new msq trial extreme. How does that make sense?

That leaves casuals with roulette then log off. Maps I guess? hunts? (if they don't die before you get there). The game doesn't have a lot meat in it for casuals, let's be real about that.

I've put far more time into this game than any other, but with no innovation I don't see myself spending much time on it going forwards. It really felt like the 2019 expansion was the right time to shake things up in a major way to keep it fresh but it didn't happen. Now we've reached the 7th anniversary of ARR and I just can't get excited about the same formula continuing.

In my opinion 7 years is too long to keep doing the same thing and not have any surprises (to the core content). With a certain cadence they just keep incrementing the item level, plugging in the next dungeon/ trial/ raids with an alternating pattern between normal and alliance, etc. Yes it's the same formula since v2.0 Aug 2013 for those who haven't been around that long (I started in 2012, before I had a forum account).

It feels like they are in a rut creatively and just repeating things because that's what we do. On one of the recent LL streams they didn't show much of the new tribe because "everyone knows how tribes work by now." Yeah, the tribe content is just spending a few minutes per day clicking on a few things, because that's how they've always worked. I'd rather they not add stuff like that unless it offers a new kind of experience, because we already have a lot of old tribes that work the same way so it starts feeling redundant and pointless busy work to unlock the reward and then never touch again.

User engagement and growth apparently didn't slow down during the content drought / delays caused by adjusting operations to the pandemic. I am happy for their success but it means they aren't pressured to take any risks, change their gameplay systems or repetitive content/reward structures. So for me personally I'm treating patch 5.3 as the end of the FF XIV story and no longer maintaining my subscription every month unless they come back with an exciting overhaul of the game.

That isn't unique to XIV though. Every MMO experiences a gradual (or sometimes sharp) decline in players after an expansion launch or major update. A lot of these players play for one or two things, get it done, unsubscribe and wait for the next update (or never come back). The drop isn't a surprise or a concern really. It's the noticeable retention loss of the base that would be a major concern. As in if every subsequent expansion or update sees less and less active, concurrent players. XIV has been consistently healthy in that department and has even grown from expansion to expansion. In the future of course things will change.

Extremes and Shiva Unreal are meant as pretty accessible content though. The latter very much so since it's essentially a tuned up original Shiva and acts as a gateway for fresh 80s to get a foothold into other endgame content. Honestly wished they added it sooner (with more exciting rewards please, talking fox-man).

The problem with relics is that they aren't content in of themselves, they're essentially grinds that require you to do old things (FATES, dungeons, trials) over and over again. The very few unique things to them are some minor trials (ARR/ShB only) with a simple story attached to them. This leads in to the current situation: you don't need the relics for those kind of grinds anymore. You have bi-color gemstones to motivate people to do FATES, Kupo treasure hunts and Wondrous Tails to get them to do old dungeons and holiday events/collaboration in between for good measure. They've lost a lot of their purpose over the expansions and the developers pretty much said as much (as in calling them process of designing relic grinds as boring for everyone involved).

Even with Eureka, the weapons were tacked on, but at least in there they had more of a purpose as pseudo progression gear for all things Eureka and not just a much more annoying tome weapon that will soon be nothing but glam. If you want to argue that the Eurekan/Bozjan content should come sooner then I'm with you, but that runs into issues for other content. /shrug
