Here I was hoping how it was possible for Zenos to have a butt as big as his in his armor.

There is a lot about Garlean armor we don't know yet to go in full details but considering how fast Valens put his on they are decently lightweight and form fitting.

Customization seems to be a very common thing for high ranking officers of the Imperial Legion so I can only assume their armor are always custom made to the person specifically.

Garlean gunblades are basically actual guns with an elongated bayonet extending past the gun's barrel, and more importantly, shoot actual bullets, thus they're more often used as long-ranged weapons, but can be effectively handled as an actual sword as well. Several MCH rifles are also designed somewhat like this.

The hrothgar version on the other hand, is basically the FFVIII version given FFXIV lore padding: it's just a sword with a fancy rumble pack attached, as in, the chamber is loaded with aether that ignites when the trigger is pulled and sends a tremor through the blade when the blade strikes a target, thus increasing the damage the strike causes (they're more accurately called tremorblades than gunblades), they're meant for close range fighting, although they can 'shoot' a blast of aether from afar as well rather like a gunshot (Lightning Shot).

Funnily the Garleans regard the hrothgar version as an 'antique' and obsolete design, where as the hrothgar in turn treat the Garlean version as a cheap knockoff.
The game lore does love to emphasize how both Garlean Gunblade and Gunbreaker Gunblade are completely different weapons.

I honestly expected SE since 2.0 to make a Garlean Gunblade Job eventually and still surprised they have not done so yet as a FF14 original Job.

Gunbreaker is nice but the design and sudden appearance in FF14 lore is more for nostalgia sake since it is heavily designed around being Squall/Seifer Job.

I can only guess the emphasize of them separating the weapons in lore is to keep open the option for Garlean Gunblade Job in the future even if it may end up being a Season 2 Expansion New Job which is 7.0 and beyond

I just hope the devs would add the armour into the game someday

If anybody could help share any information on Garlean armor, even if its little I'd be really grateful! ^^
I look to the fight at the end of the Ghimlyt Dark with the Soranus sisters. They both achieve flaming auras with colors that match their armor. The flaming auras resulting from the rule of cool the aether/ceruleum/power bleeding into the air around them because it's a high level of energy without an equal measurement of containment.

Though I don't know the mechanism, it's said that personnel Garlean Magitek armor allows them to manipulate aether. I'd assume it has some sort of central power crystal or highly refined ceruleum core that lets it mimic aetherial ability. The Soranus twins have a raid wide similar to Zenos called, "Artificial Plasma." It cracks the ground around them, and explodes outwards from their armor in a giant purple cloud.

Despite what was said on the previous page, Zenos's red and black aura only seems to come from the Ame-no-Hibakiri, because of the first fight against him with it in Yanxia. It's actually some half way house between his armor and himself. Note that his armor glows bright red in the center of the aura the whole time, but never his face. Also note that when you fight him in Ala Mhigo, he throws all 3 of his swords, the actual swords, into the ground around him during his ult prep phase. He then still has the aura, complete with bright red armor during that ult prep.

Compare and contrast with when the WoL fights his body piloted by Elidibus. Elidibus does the same battlefield encirclement as the fight in Ala Mhigo, with a mostly black aura, some red intermingled. But no bright red armor. Not the same aura, but a mimicry. He also fails to surround himself with purplish black sphere shield during the ult prep.
