Is a level skip worth it?

Please take the time to read everything before blindly replying with 'It's not good for bad players, most players are bad, you're likely to be a bad player, its not worth it'. I see people do this a lot in other threads I've looked at, and its not helpful if you don't provide relevant reasoning to support your answer.

I've been wanting to play Machinist as it looks like a really fun job to play, and I've been trying to level it up. I've grinded dungeons to get it up to level 51, but the constant 20 min+ DPS queue times have been pretty discouraging, so I've been considering buying a level skip for Machinist, especially considering that its currently on a discounted price.

While I haven't played high level Machinist before, I have a good enough grasp on the game's core mechanics that I've done fine on lv 70 dungeons like Ala Mhigo, and have RDM, AST, and GNB all higher than lv 70. (My account here shows an alt character for some reason, so don't look there for proof XD)

I've seen a lot of people say that getting the skills one at a time makes a big difference in a player's ability to play a job, is that true? I'm not the type of person who would blindly run into multiplayer content with the boosted job before practicing on dummies and watching a guide of two, but is the experience of leveling manually worth the terribly long grind? Should I suck it up and level it up myself or is the potion a viable option?

Yup 100%. Don't listen to people who say that leveling from scratch will make you a better player, that's a complete lie. Level 80 and level 70 don't even play the same!

In my opinion, it's not worth it, but that's completely irrelevant. The question of whether or not a job skip potion is worth it solely depends on how much you value the convenience of skipping the leveling. Having a good grasp of the game's core, taking the time to train on dummies, looking for people's opinion on the subjective value of worth, none of that matters in the grand scheme on what you really want out of your game.

Besides, with all the thinking you've done about this, combined with the steps you take or will take to ensure you play the job properly, it seems to me like you might have already made up your mind about it.

EDIT: Now to answer your question about if getting skills one at a time makes a big difference in someone's ability to play the job? The short answer is no. The long answer is no. The ability to play a job is centered around mostly practicing with it. You research, you train, you master the game's instances, all of that tie in with your ability to play a job. Plenty of players get new skills or traits from leveling from scratch but never look into them, prompting them to be the "ice mages" of the end game.

Most jobs it’s a insufferably adjustment as you get traits and skills you have to read carefully then piece out your rotations accordingly

Having said that MCH has the least amount of skills in the game, the easiest job in the game and the one with the least amount of confusing or punishing mechs within its kit. It also miraculously doesn’t evolve much past 50 besides 1-2 skills so if you got it’s 50 rotation down you essentially got its 80 rotation down as it gets nothing but Aoe Fodder or “upgrades” ie like Broil or Aero.

If Que times are a issue I suggest call your FC for help, or do fates while you wait as fates are swarmed nowadays thanks to events. But honestly if you could Care less about the Job quests MCH is the least harmful to Level skip. Any other job would be a nightmare to relearn with 18+ skills everywhere but thankfully MCH is a subpar job

You already started leveling it. The more levels you gain the less you get for your money. I'd just go spam PoTD until 60 then HoH until 70 then Trusts until 80. Trusts are instant and the two deep dungeons have quick queue times from other people leveling.

Depends entirely on how much spare money you have and how much you enjoy leveling. There really is no hard answer to your question.

And no, there really is no significant benefit to learning the class that you're going to gain from leveling. In fact, if you're putting in the kind of effort you claim, you will probably benefit more from spending that time practicing at max level.

This depends on the player and the class. For example, I've levelled up BLM and PLD normally. However, if I did buy a skip for each, I feel that I'd have a hard time adjusting to BLM compared to PLD.

I have bought a skip for AST, and it did take me time to adjust (esp with the cards). I was still able to keep everyone alive in the roulette's I did queue for despite being new to it.

If you're confident that you won't fidget around and flop with MCH in dungeons, then go get a skip. If you're not confident but want to buy a skip, then buy it and practice bef queuing.

Getting skills one at a time helps with practice and getting used to the class, but don't tell that to GNB and DNC.

I feel it's fine in your scenario. The cases where I feel a player really shouldn't are largely when it's their first job and they really need to learn to play period before jumping into high level stuff. If it's your second job or later, who really cares. I will say though: I do feel getting the abilities one by one does help with learning how the class works, but you can always do the same thing I do every time an expansion drop and my entire kit changes anyway: Go to a dummy and add skills one by one, experimenting with it and learning how it functions before moving onto the next.
