Not before a models update. Character models are blocky AF, especially Lalafells; It's like seeing a remastered PS2 games for PS3, were everything remains the same but with "Higher res" textures

Althought I did cringe a little bit when I saw the crystal's textures on the Exarch, I don't think they're going to do a huge texture upgrade now that the game is 6 years old.
That being said, I don't really mind it, even thought it would be a good thing, for sure.
Not important but just thought to share it's 7 if you count from ARR and 10 if you go from 1.0.
8 years from FFXI to FFXIV (1.0). Entirely unnecessary pattern to 'have to' repeat but is why hyper-very-theoretically that 6.0 might be the time FFXIV goes into cooldown (which doesn't even mean the end, since FFXI received support and expansions past FFXIV first touching down).
I could definitely see them rebuilding the game on a modern game engine to increase texture and address the "built-in lag" at the same time. We all got used to it / how to abuse it with telegraphed abilities but it would be a legit major improvement if the game is still around for many more years.

Better textures and models, sure, but also better inventory management and maybe better character customization if they can get the game and the nightmare servers to line up better.
....Also maybe the nightmare servers could be fixed someday. That would be nice.
I'd be down for an opt-in texture update honestly. It's my favorite aspect about LoTRO because even though the game is old and most PCs can run it, they still prompt you when installing as to whether or not you want the upgrade.
If it’s initially opt-in, absolutely. That seems like a reasonable next step in moving up the game’s capabilities in a future expansion, but I hope it would be how the dropping of PS3 was with a whole expansion cycle’s worth of warning that players without the better textures will be required to upgrade for the new content.
I suppose it is pertinent to ask if there is a precedent. I.e. did XI ever get a graphics overhaul or not?
I don't think so? They did an overhaul on the player models, and stuff has been getting progressively nicer looking every expansion, but I don't think they ever went back and did a full graphical overhaul beyond blowing the old world up in Cataclysm.
