Glamour System should urgently be changed

Hi all,

lately we gotten so many new items. Over time so many items have ramped up in my inventors I had to hire extra retainers just to store all the possible glamour. The restrictions of the glamour system first of all are absolutely not fun. They are an annoyance and they are really not up to what the game provides. It's a very big problem for all those people that like to collect and for many that is a very important part of the game. I have seen similar systems in other games and they all help the players to make this system as convenient as possible. Usually once you looted an item you are able to glamour that forever.
Yet here I have to pay extra money to have glamour always available.
It is a game mechanic I really dislike and it would easily be fixable.

The glamour system is archaic and remembers me of all those problems FFXIV 1.0 had. Overcomplication, someone creating a complex system using all his imagination but ruining the game for everyone using ist.. especially thos who invest a lot of time.

Please please do change the glamour system.

I completely agree that the glamour system is overdue for change. As far as I have been able to understand by looking around, it is quite an undertaking to change the glamour system into something that would feel more modern and user friendly, due to the game code.

When that is said, I believe that improving the glamour system is something that should be higher prioritized. It is not purely a joke when people say glamour is the true end-game, there’s truth to it.

The glamour system is probably the feature I have felt most limited by. The fact that the glamour dresser only has enough space for 400 slots, and that by putting items into the glamour dresser, you either have to take them out or use one of your glamour plates to apply it to your character seems like a bad choice.

It is also a mess that there exists a glamour dresser but also the armoire which will accept some event items. Once the glamour dresser is full we can introduce retainer number 1, basically scattering gear all over the place.

The perfect glamour system for me would be a system where you are allowed to save one of each item, if you deemed that necessary. I know that, had it been treated like minions where you could ‘collect skins’, I would be collecting skins.

I don’t think it is necessary to be able to save one of each item, but I would definitely prefer it. I would however find it necessary to find a way to get rid of having to scatter items all over the place, and instead collect them all in one place. So said in a different way, we would need a glamour dresser with a lot more space.

As it is right now I would never dare to introduce weapons into the glamour dresser as it is already struggling with space. There are still so many different pieces I would love to add to the glamour dresser as I know I could have a lot of fun using them to create unique outfits.

As for the interface of the glamour dresser. I find it to be quite a bad experience looking around for certain pieces of gear. I would appreciate a simple search bar, and perhaps even the ability to favorite certain items a whole lot.

The glamour plates would also require some love. We have 15 plates, but 29 different classes. So at least 29 glamour plates would be required. If I were to create a PLD glamour outfit, using PLD only pieces, it would only work on the PLD, the limitation of certain pieces is fine, the problem arises when all my 4 tanks use the same gear, meaning certain pieces will have glamour that cannot show. I can solve it by linking a gearset to a glamour set, but then I still need the 29 plates, to really get a chance to create the exact look I want for all my classes.

The final issue would be that changing your class outside of a city, while using the linking gearset to glamour solution, would still result in issues as you cannot apply the plates outside of bigger cities and living quarters.

The limitations of the Glamour system is the prime reason why I don't bother collecting or caring about how Gear looks in the game.
If they want Glamour to be functional they'll need to address and fix these issues:

1: Not enough space for any new gear, it takes only an hour of gametime to collect about 50 gear alone.
2: Not enough plates for all classes on plates.
3: The Armoire is too picky on what it'll store, it will even reject items that makes sense to be placed in there.
4: Finding a certain item you want takes too long since there is no search.
5: No method of seeing what the items looks like without clicking " try on " or editing a glamour plate.

If they want suggestions on how to fix these 5 things, i'd suggest the following:

1: Increase the Glamour space from 400 to ∞.
2: Increase max plate count to 29 with an increase on max plates with each new job added.
3: The Armoire should allow quest items, more $ items, and all unobtainable gear into the Armoire
4: Add in a "Search" feature and allow users to seek out gear from a certain dungeon/raid/trial without having a type in the gears name.
5: Change how items are being displayed in the Dresser so they won't have to click all items to see which one looks right.

I was about to make a new topic regarding Glamour and saw yours,,

first thanks for taking the first step to post this... i think many has been submitted before yet i fix over time was not what we always wanted,,
i dont know if we are allowed to share examples from other games,


but i will add them and i hope they look again at the concept of glamour.
first as mentioned by people who posted before me

Current status of glamour
1- limited storage
2- storage costs
3- limited presets
4- cant store everything
so its basically limited,

what players want:
1- no limits
2- its better if it store item once its picked or you place it in glamour window,
3- everything will be stored as original state of the item
4- Player can open the window in town and customize at the go and we can change the costs from adding to glamour to applying
for example to apply glamour it will cost 1k gil or more depend on how it will be managed,

some of games examples of how they handle glamours
Example 1

Wow (i only played the game for a month - so i dont know too much)
1-they have a good glamour system, once its picked it will be stored in glamour window,
2-to apply it costs gold
3- it can track what your missing

Blade and Soul (i played since Beta and stopped when i started FFXIV few years back)
1- Allow you to store items (cosmetics)
2- its limited to certain cosmetics so not everything yet they always add it later on future patches
3- free of cost moving items
since its cosmetics it will not effect stats
not too good yet not too bad,

i cant think of other example,
i have been playing FFXIV for too long, and i dont have much exp in glamours, but i only know of the examples i mentioned,

Agree with everything here, especially with how the current inventory system works. The concept is to store anything in the armoire which may want glamour later and the armoire has no item limit. However, actuality is roughly 90% of the items won't even go in the armoire making it a useless system. If it is going to continue at the current pace, then the glamour dresser should be unlimited and the armoire limited.

The thing is, if it was "easily fixable" they would probably fix it.

Your strawpoll isn't going to tell them anything they don't know already. They know people want more slots and more plates and the ability to apply them in more places.

The game runs on old systems and it's clear that the dresser is built to integrate with the old system without disturbing or altering it. That suggests to me that they can't, at least without serious restructuring of the way things work, and if that was easy they'd have done it instead of building this workaround.

You can apply individual glamours direct from the dresser - it's as simple as right-clicking and selecting the "apply" option from the same menu you'd use to remove it.
