While IMO that would be nice. Having the board flooded with threads created by people that can't afford them and feel entitled to have them just because they exist would be beyond annoying.
I'm sure people could be eased into it. The first gil sink could be one million gil, the next two million, the one after that five million and so on. It'd establish a trend.
Isn't that based on early purchases, though? Even with a lot of gil to burn, I just wait a week or two for the prices to fall and purchase the stuff I want as soon as they do.
Some servers also have better prices than others too.
For some things yes, for most things, no. Assuming some fundamental nerf to how the item is acquired doesn't tank the price, anything of the above mentioned that sells really high, stays really high forever. The price drops a little bit from day/week one prices, but you're still going to be spending 500k-20million on these things no matter how long you wait. If you're expecting things like the Copycat Bulb or Incitatus mount to sell for 100k or less, you're going to be waiting a very long time.
And due to cross server capabilities becoming well-used, most servers have equalized and you are not going to find significantly different prices on average for things. You get your outliers from random people deciding to sell at a huge price drop one time, and it's great when you can catch these bargains before they're snatched up, but the average going rate tends to be mostly the same across servers.
