It would seem I misunderstood (dyslexic, you see), but you don't need to be so rude about it. It's not hard to say "oh no, I think you misunderstood me, [rephrased and reiterated original statement]". Seriously.
What I said still remains true, regardless of who I direct it at, though. OP also seems to think the Crystal Tower raids shouldn't be mandatory because they're 'raids' and raids are scary.
If youve played even a little ways into the 5.0 story(let alone up to 5.2) then you already have an idea of how important the tower is to the story being told in Shadowbringers. Two things(that i wont say because spoilers) that happen in 5.3 make it even more important that the raid series must already be done on your character in order to move forward. The others are right, the content isnt hard nor are the ques overly long. You should be able to do the quests, ques, and raids in under 2 hours. They really are just bigger dungeons, that your party happens to team up with other parties to tackle(which actually makes them easier instead of harder, as you have more people who can cover for something if others screw up). As a DPS, you can literally just focus on killing the trash/killing the bosses and completely ignore the people who arent in your group. Then once you finish those two hours you never need to do them again if you didnt like them.
Side note: Anyone wanting to work on the relic for the current expansion(lvl 80 resistance weapons) needs to do the alliance raids from the last one(lvl 70) because the story is a continuation. The Return to Ivalice(lvl 70) raids are a little harder then the Crystal Tower(lvl 50) ones were, but the devs nerfed them to make them easier when they became a pre-req. Clearly this is intended to be accessible, and it really is.
Yes, yes, yes. I expected all of this fanboy nonsense when I posted my query. NOW I also find out that the ENTIRE Crystal Tower quest line, including THREE raids, needs to be absolutely completed before proceeding. I'm not sure if you boys realize this, but there are many older players out there (I know, a shock) that have jobs and kids and a myriad of life responsibility other than spending hours waiting for and participating in raids just to experience the story line (seriously... MrHappy, Meoni, Work to Game, Desperius, Lynx and the rest -- none of whom look like they have girlfriends aggroing them let only wives or kids). So, poo-poo me if you must, but I'm pretty much giving up on MSQ in FFXIV. Maybe when I'm MUCH older and retired and home bound.
Note: Just finishing 5.0 Shadowbringers was a Herculean task using strategies like waiting until EVERYONE was asleep to sneak in play time. I had to watch a lot of the cutscenes later on YouTube to fully enjoy the story as I simply didn't have the sit down time for it originally.

"Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds."
I'm gonna assume you're trolling. If you're not, there is absolutely no need for this amount of vitriol towards other players for just recommending something in the game. Seriously if you made it to 5.3 in the msq, you have enough time to do the Crystal Tower raids.Yes, yes, yes. I expected all of this fanboy nonsense when I posted my query. So... good news? If you only care about the savage and/or ultimate tier of raids, then you dont have to do any more MSQ for quite awhile. There is no raid for you this patch. So obviously you dont have to do anything at all. When the next patch comes in(probly) december, youll get a new raid tier to end the eden series. But this is side story, so still no MSQ required. Then next spring(apr?) youll get a new ultimate, provided you managed to clear E12(S). Also no MSQ required. Then next summer(aug?) there will likely be a 6.0 expansion. Theyll launch the next savage series a week or two after that. THAT will be the next time you will be required to do any MSQ. Smash through 5.3 5.4 5.5 5.55 and 6.0 in those 2 weeks, then youll buy yourself another 2 years of not needing to do any story.
So how is attempting to clear the Crystal Tower storyline any different? Do you have 30 minutes to an hour to play every day? Good, that's all you need and you'd be done in like 2-3 days if you really barely have time to play.Yes, yes, yes. I expected all of this fanboy nonsense when I posted my query. If you have enough time to reach 5.3, you have enough time to do 3 30 minute (if that) dungeons and the questline that goes with it. You don't even gotta do it in one day, spread it out over a few if time is really that constrained.
This is frankly a nonsensical attitude.Yes, yes, yes. I expected all of this fanboy nonsense when I posted my query. Queuing for these raids is no more onerous than doing so for a regular dungeon, and each one can be cleared in well under an hour.
Even assuming a really limited game time budget of 90 minutes or so per day, this is more than achievable.
Your ageist response is also way off the mark.
40-plus year old player here with a full time job, wife, and kids.
This was not at all an issue for me.
