5.3 Spoilers Why was he “called” to us?

I remember towards the beginning of the patch the WoL felt compelled to go to the lookout where they and Ardbert fist bumped. Soon after, Elidibus shows up confused as to why he was called here to us as well (I think he mentions it’s happened before too). Was this explained? If not, what would have made us “call” Elidibus to us unintentionally? Given what we know of Azem’s power, maybe that’s the reason? What do you guys think?

I think it's rooted in the explanation of what Elidibus is towards the end.

Primal summoning as we know it is based on a flawed version of Creation taught to beings incapable of properly using it. It leads to a deliberately-flawed result. But even in Creation as the Ancients knew it, concepts were entwined with the desire to manifest them. When Zodiark was summoned with Elidibus at its core, the desire driving the Creation was "I want to save the world."

When the magnitude of Zodiark's psyche tempered His summoners and they gave no heed to the costs and sacrifices of utilizing His power, this spurred the Creation of Hydaelyn and divided Amaurot as it had never been divided before. With even the Convocation itself in disarray, Zodiark knew that the only way to save the world was for the Convocation to have its Elidibus.

Due to the nature of his being, Elidibus is empowered when people passionately want to save the world, and he can sense, follow, and tap that power.

When Elidibus created the false starshower, it created a cacophony of new voices and desires to save the First. Between the Warrior of Light ruminating on wanting to save the First, and Elidibus not being used to all the new voices in his head, they just accidentally drew one another to each other.

Such is the burden of hope...

He's admitting that he's not yet familiar with the sources and natures of the sentiments he's inspired, which has left the door to his essence open, in a way.

Looking back after the Seat of Sacrifice I thought it was foreshadowing the WoL/D's true identity and power as Azem. If the WoL/D summoned shade or whatever of Hades then they unconsciously did the same with Elidibus. IIRC we were thinking about our encounter with Elidibus at that spot and "got a feeling" to go check it out. And who shows up at the same time? Just who we were thinking of and wanted to talk to.

Hythlodaeus also talks about how Azem had the power to summon the convocation; could relate to that somehow as well.

I wonder if Minfilia accidently summoned Elidibus to the Waking Sands in 2.1 because she was looking at Tupsimati and how her mentor saved the world with it

Looking at the scene again, I'd guess not given he seemed to have an actual purpose for showing up probably as a result of the failure of the Ultima Weapon scheme in 2.0.

Initially, I had assumed it was because Elidibus happened to be wearing Ardbert’s dead body and we were thinking of the moment we had that talk with Ardbert on the tower. But after seeing Elidibus catch a glimpse of us as Azem, followed by a later Echo memory where he seemed to be reaching for Azem (presumably the Convocation member wearing the classic WoL helm) makes me think we had unintentionally drawn him there because of our soul being a larger fragment of Azem’s.

And judging from how he reached towards them in the aforementioned Echo vision, I think it’s a safe bet he might have even admired Azem back in them.

I'm fairly sure he did admire Azem as he says sundered though you may be, you fought for the world's salvation. He also repeats the rain has stopped line while adding something like, but you weren't there. To me he's talking about Azem as one normally doesn't use the word you when speaking about a group. Then there is the whole question on what and to whom did he promise a something to? Sadly his memory became too degraded to remember that part.

Yeah i think his promise was to our past self as "Azem".

You totally have the truth of it, besides if you do the Pandaemonium stuff, before you like get into the Pandaemonium dungeons talk with Elidibus, and each time he'll talk a lot about Azem, and from there you can get some lore of how Azem and Elidibus's relationship was like, it is quite wholesome and sweet, like he none stop talks about Azem like a lot during the Pandaemonium stuff so it is fair to say he liked Azem a lot, probably more than the other convocation members themselves.
