Housing Ownership Restrictions

So after spending far too many hours basically clubbing on Aether after our maps group last Saturday, I think I understand why SE wants to retain the housing neighborhoods. What's not helping things, however, is the ability for a player to roll an alt and buy a house (which the alt only needs a jump potion to be able to buy a house).

Here is what SE should do to fix part of this problem:

• All characters on a server gain teleport locations to all the houses owned by all the characters on that server.
• A player is unable to buy a personal house on a server if they have at least one personal house teleport location. In other words, one personal house per account per server.
• Have SE indicate whichever house was bought first.
• For the next couple of main updates (X.2, X.3, etc), SE should allow you to remove all decorations from your houses without penalty, and allow you to get a 100% refund on the house price if you choose to relinquish the house. Also, if you could put an item up on the market before using it with a house, you should be able to do so after retrieving it from the house.
• After this time, SE should auto demolish all houses owned by an account except for the one bought first.
• FC houses are completely unaffected by this, and FC houses do not count towards your personal house limit.

For example, if I had three alts (Moe, Larry, and Curly) in addition to my main (Maley) on Catcuar, and everyone but Curly has a house, Curly wouldn't be able to buy a house until everyone else demolished theirs. If I was being stubborn, and Maley's house was bought first, after the grace period Moe and Larry's houses would be autodemolished.

All in all, this really is a case of "this is why we can't have anything nice" as the above is a way to help better utilize the housing ward system while we also keep adding additional wards.

Correct me if I am wrong, I am pretty sure there is already such restriction as one house per one service account (excluding grandfather ones )

Unless I really misunderstood, your entire post is basically saying don't let people have more than one personal house per server per account? That is already the case and has been for a long time.

One service account can currently have 8 FC houses (1 per character) and 1 personal house, per world.

So if you already have a personal house you won't be able to buy one on an alt, so everything you just asked for is already implemented

Unfortunately this is incorrect. SE removed this restriction sometime during the 4.2-4.3 timeframe and never updated their post. You can have 1 personal house and 8 FC houses per account per server at present. This is how you have people like Mew owning 50ish houses over on Gilgamesh. -_-

That's literally what neil said. 8 fc houses (8 characters) and 1 personal house = 9 houses total.
Also it incorrect about Mew, he no longer own 50 houses but I guess it easy to jump on a person and use them as a scapegoat.

It's why I wish SE would enforce the harsher restrictions and not rollback the policy. I'm OK with throwing some of those people a bone and removing there ersatz FC/person house requirement and leave the houses only to the FCs and deal with the entire FC housing side of the situation at a later date - mostly because the FC house ownership thing is kinda obscure within game (or at least, something I may have missed) and you shouldn't have policies based around what's effectively trivial pursuit in a game cause all that does is cause confusion.

Either way, someone owning THAT many houses kinda shows just how broken the system is - and I'm fairly certain that's not the only person that has an absurd number of houses. Stuff like this is why we can't have nice things.

Nobody is going to say the system is flawless and I doubt many would even argue that its not broken but the issue of him owning a ward by himself is separate from people being grandfathered in. He bought almost all of those after the buying restriction was put in place and he's done it through numerous FCs named the same across multiple separate accounts. While what he's done could be considered poor taste, he's not actually broken any rules. Furthermore, not only is this not a loophole, its something SE specifically enabled.

As for grandfathering, you should never be a proponent of having SE take something away from players that they've earned. Thats something that will get messy fast and its a pandora's box that should never be opened. Not only that, but taking away someone elses house doesn't fix the issue. Sure it will let a few dozen buy a house...out of several thousand that still don't have one. Instead of taking away from other players, how about you post ideas for expanding housing in a way that actually fixes the issue?

Not entirely, it's about ending the grandfathered in houses, specifically with:

• Have SE indicate whichever house was bought first.

And....

• After this time, SE should auto demolish all houses owned by an account except for the one bought first.

Freeing up the houses that have been grandfathered in would free up a bunch of houses, which would help with the housing distribution.

Edit:
I really don't want to get into the FC side of things, but the house should be bound to the FC, not to a particular player. That makes it easier for the players to see what's going on and you don't end up in a weird situation where the FC can't move to a new house because of something one of the officers (or FC leader) did that's screwing over the FC and no one is admitting to what's going on so the FC is stuck. That's a part of the policy (on https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodes.../housing_land/ ) that should change.
