I never understood the multi-character troubles until now. Things need account wide.

I use to be like most of you, saying "You only need one character, why make things account wide?". That was until a few friends of mine decided to come back to FFXIV. All of us are on different data centers, and I'm the only one in my friend group on Primal. Three are on Crystal, one is on Aether and two are on Chaos. Each of us are in various parts of the story. I know some people are going to say "just server transfer". It's not that easy. One the transfer fee, second being my friends have friends in their respective data centers, and lastly they're in FCs they don't want to leave. Now if cross data center was truly a thing we wouldn't have to worry. But it's cross world only. So we all made one character for each data center we were on. Sounds straightforward right? Well, not exactly.

All those event items they wanted to use? Locked on their main. Mog Station purchases? Locked on main. Achievements? On main. Hopefully you can see where I'm going with this. If not, here's a short list of what should be account wide

    - Event/Limited Time Achievements
    - All Mog Station purchases
    - Event/Limited Time items (Mounts/Emotes/Glam/armoire etc)

I know this is most likely an unrealistic suggestion, but next time you see someone talking about the troubles of having more than one character, don't brush them off.

I've got more than one character (4 at level cap plus one in progress to be precise). They don't all have the same achievements. Most of them are missing many of the seasonal events items because I hadn't created the character yet.

You don't need any of the items you listed to play an alt. Not every character needs to have every item.

If you want an achievement reward on a character badly enough, earn the achievement. There are very few achievements in this game that require extreme effort.

If you want the mogstation items (including previous seasonal event items) on the character that badly, then buy them. They aren't that expensive when they're something you're going to actively use on a regular basis.

It's amazing how much stuff you discover you really don't need when the game doesn't just hand them to you for free.

Please check your privilege. Some people have to choose between starving and abandoning mog station items. Not everyone finds mog station items "not that expensive".

If the budget is that tight why are they spending that crucial money on a pay-to-play game?

As someone who used to have the time and willpower to play on multiple characters, I can agree to a certain extent. However, when you have to pay more than $5 for a glamour outfit/emote/mount/etc. that is pretty expensive. We already pay a fee to play the game, and while I'm glad there's no real pay to win mechanic, spending as much or more per item as the subscription fee for some things is expensive for virtual items which arguably hold no real value.

Achievements and seasonal items should be per character, but if I pay $12-18 for a glam I want it on all my characters.

Not the best example. The mog station items are expensive regardless, but if anyone is playing this game and prioritizing it over basic necessities to survive there is a problem.

I only agree with cash shop items.

Achievements should be tied to the character, because they're mostly character specific.
No point sharing the "Leveled WHM to 80" achievement if that character is only a level 15 CNJ.

Seasonal event items would be tricky, as again they acquired by the character. Yet many seasonal event items end up in the cash shop, which should make them account wide.

Well to be fair by achievements I meant the event/seasonal ones since they actually seem tied to a good deal of event/seasonal rewards and allowing someone to get whatever item again.

For Mog Station purchases there’s no reason that they cannot be accounted wide. “If you want it again just buy it again” isn’t a reason.

So like, achievements would stat character specific, but the Calamity Salvager would draw from the achievement pools of all your characters? That would enable you to reclaim those items on other characters.

I do events on 12 characters currently (well most events - I do not do things like moogle tomes or Yokai on all 12 characters) and I think they should allow some things to be account-wide.

Part of the fun of leveling alts is doing the story again, leveling up again, and just generally having a fresh experience again.
The unfun part of alts is being expected to pay over $100 for cosmetics I've already earned or purchased.

I think event achievements should grant access to calamity NPCs account-wide.
All Shop purchases should be account-wide.

I think the ideal solution to both of these would be a better glamour system which shares glamour wardrobes between characters so that if you unlock a look your account has it because you as a player unlocked it. It's pretty much the only thing I miss about Warcraft. Though with how this game's inventory is managed it's probably not possible to do it so cleanly.
